Description
SUPPORT SOMBRAFUNDponies in this comic may appear different from how they really are, Twilight Sparkle is a real nice pony in real life.
-----------------------
yeah i know im sorry...
i just had to make something about the 'lack-of-Sombra'
im not complaining, i thought the new episode(s) were awesome! but the spoilers (even if i didn't see much of em) made it less interesting
but if your villain gets less screentime than GAK...
i had this idea and changed it a lot to make Twilight look less... 'bitchy'. for the people who now think that i think that Twi is not nice, i love Twi and i think she's an awesome and nice pony
i wasn't sure about the style i was gonna use for this comic, so i went with what i did for 'gak.png'
no sketch and chibi
this suddenly got more and more attention... i was like 'no way... it can't be... i didn't even send it to them... i will have to check... thanx Equestria Daily (or whoever decided to show it to them

Sombra wasn't lacking in evilness, he was simply lacking in... well, actually everything else xD. Well, what he really needed was an occasion to show who he is I guess. But he definitely had the evil, no problem about that.

I was kind of disappointed, too, at first. But someone else actually made some good points regarding Sombra. He's a different type of villain compared to what we've seen so far. Someone compared him to Sauron.
How much screen time (or page time, for the books) does Sauron get? He has a background, but it's only in the Silmarilion; in LotR proper, Sauron has no background besides his defeat at Isildur's hand. We know nothing of his motivation or goals except to rule to the world. He is, literally, a faceless enemy, lurking on the edges of the story, who's presence casts a shadow of fear over all of Middle Earth without him ever having to directly involve himself in the story.
The problem with Sombra was that he wasn't literally faceless, and being able to read his emotions made him seem less like a mysterious, oppressive presence and more like a normal character (picture Slenderman with a face; much less scary). For the record, though, he almost won by just planning ahead, is the first villain to get Twilight to swallow her pride, and in the end it wasn't his own hubris that brought him down, unlike some other MLP villains.
Anyway, nice comic. You make Sombra look adorable.

What you're overlooking is what made Sauron a tangible threat instead of just some force giving people the literal evil eye: Sauron had an army. Sombra, not so much.

Sauron was trapped inside Mordor and needed his army to do his dirty work. Sombra was capable of conquering the Crystal Empire with his own power. The difference between a horde of orcs and a cloud of dark magic are mostly semantic in this context, and the comparison isn't perfect in any case.
But yeah, I'll agree that Sauron did a better job of projecting a threatening presence. What Sombra needs are some Nazghuls. Also, Twilight and friends managed to complete their quest while remaining inside the Crystal Empire instead of venturing out into the wild or into the lands of the enemy. If the hobbits had stayed cozy in Rivendell, Sauron would have seemed much less threatening.

Really? Sauron is the main villain in the Lord of the Rings, by J. R. R. Tolkien. It's well enough known that I usually take it for granted that people are familiar with it.
Long story short, long ago Sauron waged war against the forces of good, was defeated and lost his Artifact of Doom. He lost his physical form as a result, and is now a giant flaming eye on top of his tower fortress . In the Lord of the Rings, the Artifact of Doom is rediscovered, and the heroes have to find a way to destroy it before Sauron can get his hands on it and regain his full power. While Sauron can't act directly, he does command armies, as well as a number of very dangerous creatures. Oh yeah, and the Artifact of Doom has a mind of its own, is actively seeking to return to Sauron, and gradually corrupts whoever carries it.
The books can be a little long winded and difficult to get into, but I'd definitely recommend watching the movies by Peter Jackson. The Hobbit, which is sort of a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, will be coming out soon, too (and it's also a book). Tolkien pretty much created the medieval fantasy genre. Dungeons and Dragons, Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy, pretty much all of that stuff was inspired by Tolkien's work.
Er, speaking of being long winded...

[1%] My evil is MINE. I EARNED IT AND IF YOU WERE A REAL VILLAIN, ONE EPITOMIZING TRUE EQUESTRIAN EXCEPTIONALISM, YOU'D GET YOUR OWN! STOP TAKING HANDOUTS! HAVE SOME PRIDE! [/1%]
(Actually, I feel Sombra was one of the best villains in the manner that the pressure of stopping him was perhaps the greatest. There wouldn't have been time spent on monologues, screwing around, or miscalculating the situation. He was just going to dominate and enslave everypony the moment he secured the palace. You could see how aggressively calculated he was in nullifying Shining's magic and taking possession of the gate crystals to power his dark magic further, allowing him to gain territory into the city. That's much more sophisticated than the just-screw-everything-up approach of Discord, the relative passivity of NMM, or the daring gambit of Queen Chrysalis. He's not a guy to listen to before you beat him, especially since he doesn't waste time talking to beat you. If you want to blame somepony for not allowing us to get a sense of his character, blame Cadence. She's to one who kept him at bay for two episodes.)

LUNA DAMMIT! SOMBRA WAS A GOOD VILLAIN! HE WASN'T THE ILLUSIONIST, HE WASN'T THE MONOLGUER, HE WASN'T THE INVADER, HE WAS THE SHADOW! THE DARK FORCE AT THE EDGE OF EVERYTHING, WAITING TO DESTROY ALL YOU CARE FOR AND LOVE WHILE YOU DESPERATELY TRY TO STOP HIM! NOW START THINKING HE WAS A GOOD VILLAIN SO I CAN STOP USING CAPS!
