Description
"At least we know the Assault Drums have no feeding issues left over and the bipod is surprisingly sturdy enough. I just have to find a way to mount optics on these since an aircraft ring sight won't work with the way the PRMG's set up."- Yukina Shinohara, who is at his most calm and serene when designing firearms...and being with a certain tentacle-tailed loleh

Not finding a suitable ammo backpack for my previous 'Ol Painless'-style Minigun setup left me becoming increasingly disappointed with such, so I opted to return to the idea of the Minigun's ammo source being attached to the gun itself. A full-size ammo drum would be far too large and cumbersome and has pretty much been done to death, so I opted to make the M134 more than just some Gatling Good one would lug around and fire from the hip all day. In fact, the XM134P Portable Rotary Machine Gun, or PRMG, would be something of a standard Minigun adapted to usage as a General-Purpose Machine Gun--normally fired from a bipod or tripod with 'assault fire' as a secondary option.
I took inspiration from the MG42's Assault Drums to explain why the PRMG's Assault Drums have such low ammo capacity for a multi-barreled machine gun. They're designed on the basis of putting the least weight burden on the gun while giving its wielder sufficient ammunition for 'assault fire' if placed in a scenario where it would not be possible to deploy the gun on its bipod. After the 'assault fire', the gunner would then quickly deploy his gun on its bipod and feed the gun from its regular ammunition source. In the case of the MG42, that would be multiple links of fifty 8mm Mauser rounds chained together and in the case of the PRMG, that would come from similar chains of linked 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition.
The PRMG's Assault Double Drums were designed to be seated on top of the gun in order to not throw the weight off to one side or the other, so the feed chute that Military-P designed for his base M134P was well thought out. That said, one would assume something with such an insanely high cyclic rate as a rotary machine gun of any kind would need some sort of burst limiter to prevent a Til' It Goes Click scenario from occurring. In the case of the PRMG, bursts are limited to ten rounds maximum and the burst limiter should only be disabled if feeding from longer links of ammunition as opposed to the Assault Double Drums.
That said, the PRMG isn't a total replacement for single-barreled GPMGs such as the M240B nor Special Forces-centric LWMGs such as the Mk 48 Mod 0. They're something that gives the Josou Commandos and the Commando Gals that fight alongside them. o.o

Thanks. OuO
(Funnily enough, Mayumi is the only one who really uses the bipod on a regular basis. Yukina and the others just go heavy weapons CQB with their GPMGs. =u= )

Close-quarters battle with a machine gun would be a very frightening thing. Most machine guns tailored for such furious, fast-paced combat at short range are usually tailored to be lightweight (Ex: Mk. 48 Mod 0), but a rotary machine gun designed for such a role would be nothing short of scary. Fortunately for the world, it's not really feasible yet, which essentially suggests Yukina, Mayumi, and the others aren't exactly normal (and likely have no hope of leading normal lives either, sadly). o.o;

yeah, i know they're not really normal through your art, though the thought of CQB with a Gatling gun really never enter mind

I will say that even for them, it's not easy since the crew normally run lightweight GPMGs such as HK21E derivatives, which are designed for use in special forces where such arms are run by one person instead of two. Safe to say the XM134P PRMG is something of a special-case weapon when firepower that is more than what can be delivered by the 21s or similar lightweight GPMGs such as the Mk 48 can offer. Them rotary machine guns are not lightweight by a long shot. o.o;

yeah, although if there're hostile in a building and it's not an hostage situation, i think they can just shoot from the outside if they use rotating MGs, i mean 7.62 cartridges ain't weak bullet. that's if they don't have shortage of ammo and have info about the enemies inside

Pretty much that if collateral damage isn't an issue. More often than not, the HK21s are adequate for the job since there's less of a chance to wreck something that's not supposed to be wrecked, plus the added bonus of semi-auto fire when precision shots are needed. OuO

They ain't being called General purpose for nothing, plus it's the sister of the G3. but since it's a closed bolt, i guess that the fire rate ain't really fast

The 21s actually can keep up a good rate of fire but can't do so as long as, say, a FN MAG can. Reason for that is that unlike the MAG, Minimi, 60, PK, and the like, the HK21 and its variants operate from a closed bolt. As such, a 21's accuracy can be compared to that of a battle rifle, hence why semi-auto and 3-round burst on a 21 are feasible options. OuO
