Description "Unit 58 actually went and did it--he built himself a 'mirrored' heavy-barreled FAL, somehow incorporated a quick change barrel feature, and as a result he basically created the FN FAL equivalent of the HK11.

He also plans to make more for private sales too. Civvy models have a binary trigger instead of an actual full-auto mode as a way of giving a certain draconian and clearly unconstitutional law a kick in the nuts."

The FN MAG--today's benchmark for general purpose machine guns and tomorrow's GPMGs as well. It's reliable, easy to operate, easy to service, and with a receiver lifespan longer than any other machine gun of its class, you can see why it's the benchmark other GPMGs are measured against. Unit 58 is a big fan of the FN MAG--first fielded in 1958 and is very much capable of running his MAG without an assistant.

That said, the MAG is not meant to be used in a squad automatic role--it lacks a proper handguard, is pretty long, and quite heavy (which is actually a good thing for GPMGs in terms of firing stability and overall firearm durability)--not the best thing for one-man operation behind enemy lines. As such, Unit 58 spent his time between his last appearance and now developing the 'FAL 11'--an Automatic Rifle designed for use as a combination battle rifle and Light Weight Machine Gun.

The FAL 11 is essentially a heavy barreled FAL built around a reinforced receiver that incorporates a quick change barrel feature. It still operates via its parent design's gas-operated tilting breechlock and very much functions like the heavy-barreled FAL it's based on but unlike its predecessor, can keep up sustained fire. Standard FAL magazines and 50-round drum magazines are compatible with the FAL 11 and as it retains the FAL's gas system, can still be used to fire rifle grenades. However, it does not have an belt feed module option to allow it to utilize linked ammunition.

Thanks~! It wouldn't have been possible without your FAL Pack. >u<

I've always wondered what the FN FAL equivalent of the HK11 would be like. This is the result I've come up with. OuO

One thing I've wondered is why there was never an attempt by FN Herstal to modify the heavy-barreled FAL to incorporate a quick-change barrel prior to the development of the FN Minimi in the late '70s to early '80s. The FN MAG was never designed for one-man operation and FN never had anything to fill in the light support weapon role during the '60s and '70s. o.o

I don't know why. Maybe, this gun is too hare to control when it fire in Full auto.

Now that you mention it, there was a video on Forgotten Weapons (or was it InRangeTV) on Youtube that featured Ian and Karl firing the FAL and G3 in semi and full-auto. They both agreed that full-auto .308 from the shoulder was not practical, which speaks volumes of how I've been so used to my characters having such boosted strength and endurance that they'd be able to shoulder fire .308 full-auto effectively. o.O

I guess. ^_^

(Incidentally, the idea behind what makes Taeko and crew tick is that the focal point of their battle techniques revolves around them being able to handle full auto 7.62 from the shoulder effectively. OuO)

If you think about it, the idea of a fireteam being able to use the full power of 7.62 NATO at CQB range where most peeps would use 5.56 NATO would be frightening, hence the short barrel-length variants of the HK11E and HK21E that Taeko and crew use. The boosted strength would be necessary since one disadvantage of using 7.62 is how the same number of rounds in 7.62 is far heavier than the same number of rounds of 5.56. OuO
