Description
Actually the official name of this exercise was "storyboard" that's why it's in a strip format, but come on- we wereasked to tell the back-story of some character which includes a jump to the past/ future in order to learn something new about him.
It's a flashback! Or an origins story. Whatever.
Ah, those wacky Japanese and their super-villains ^^
I wonder why my first idea of a story was the origin of a super-powered psychopathic killer... oh well. It's probably not a warning sign X3
I had two options to choose from that explains this kid's "transformation" to a super-villain:
Either he had a messed-up childhood so he swore revenge against the world (the usual route)
or he's just a dick.
I chose the latter, it was quicker to establish. What? I only had 9 panels to explain everything...
Pheww, thank god I had a chance to practice on drawing lightnings before starting working on the fifth EB chapter.
Oops! Spoi~lers!

I can't help to say that he looks sort of familiar. Almost like a corrupted Shazzam or something.

Funny, because my teacher said he looks just like Tetsuo from Akira.
Several times, actually.
Either way- it just shows how unoriginal my character designs are.

So it's kinda like how The Mandarin got his powers.

My super-villain's full back story can be summarized in:
There once was a nameless Japanese kid who was a dick. A meteor crashed near his house
and for no reason he decided to rush over and touch it and it gave him electric superpowers and thus the kid grew up to a dick super-villain.
Really the only development to his story is that he started at a village and ended in a city.
Except I did it in 9 panels and the Mandarin took how many issues?

I'm just saying there are some similarities. I mean you have two asians, who acquire power from objects that came from space. Not to mention your character's outfit kinda looks like an Iron Man suit.
I'm not entirely sure how many issues it took. I don't really read comics.

Pff! Aside from the "Asians"part I can think about ten thousand more similar cases with the "space object".
That reminds me...
I'm debating whether EB is a comic or a manga . Where am I supposed to submit it?...

So can I. The Fantastic Four, and Doctor Doom. Venom, and Carnage. Silver Surfer, Galacticus devourer of worlds, Peter Quill a.k.a Starlord, the list goes on, and I didn't mention anyone from DC comics. Like Green Lantern. Still, it just seemed like a familiar thing.
I don't think you're allowed to call it manga. By definition manga is made by Japanese people, so yeah... You would probably get a ton of manga snobs not calling it a true manga.

Hmm... I think "space themed objects that gives you superpowers"
are the most cheap and reliable source for an unimaginative mind: "Ughh... we need
something that gives people superpowers" "make it a space MacGuffin! Then
we won't have to explain anything!"
SPACE!!!
Fair enough.
Soooo all the not Japanese people who submit their work to the "manga/anime" category
are frauds?!
Now I should debate whether or not to call it a comic or a graphic novel.

Yeah space is a pretty cheep way to make something awesome. Just look at Space Godzilla.
I don't know, that's what the definition told me. I guess it's like trying to label The Last Airbender, or Legend of Korra as anime. There are a ton of Otaku, who will cuss you out, if you try to label the aforementioned series as anime. Just because they weren't made in Japan, or by people of Japanese ethnicity. It's one of those things people spend too much time debating, and arguing over.
You would apparently be splitting hairs on that one. Here is the definition: A graphic novel, is a book made up of comics content. Although the word "novel" normally refers to long fictional works, the term "graphic novel" is applied broadly, and includes fiction, non-fiction, and anthologized work. It is distinguished from the term "comic book", which is used for comics periodicals.

Well, from now on anytime one of my teachers accuses me of drawing in a manga and
anime style I'd tell them: "Ha! It's not made in Japan so it's not anime! So fuck you!"
Because apparently there are zero other attributes that identify this genre.
Fine, I'll just submit it to the "cartoon and comic" category.
