Wanted to finish this page days ago already.. at least now I finally did.XDD More random important information.
I also wonder if you can figure something out about the Dirk from this story by combining something Jake says on page 3 with what Dirk says on panel 4 here.

It sounds like Jake doesn't want Dirk around anymore... I mean, why /would/ he tell his friend such a thing was death was certain??

aww I guess you didn't read between the lines but I know I didn't openly say it yet. Of course Jake wants Dirk around he loves him : D (even though he hasn't told Dirk yet nor has Dirk told him.XD )
Jake says something like: I know how much you love flying so I won't keep you from doing so. on a previous page. <--which can be read as flying in a plane or being the pilot of the plane.
And on this Dirk says: You know I've never flown a jet before. <-note the wordingXD he didn't say plane.
Dirk is a hobby pilot, he has a flying license for smaller aircrafts : D He doesn't fly jets but he does know the 747 inside out since he built the autopilot for it and he loves that particular plane.
And the reason why Jake is saying what he does on this page is that he wants to show how proud he is of Dirk and how much he believes in him and that Dirk is capable of ANYTHING since he is so amazing. He also just tries to be happy for him even though he doesn't fully approve of the whole plane stuff because he is afraid of planes because of reasons.
Another reason for this page is that it gives a little bit more information about Dirk's trip since that fact wasn't explained yet. One being the hint that Dirk can fly.XD There is a lot of important stuff on this page you just don't know it yet and some of the hints aren't even for act 1 hahahahh.

So they do love each other! I KNEW IT!! When they were laying outside, and Jake said Dirk's name, in my head (and out loud) I was like, "They should so kiss.".
I feel stupid. >.< all of that was so obvious, yet I missed it. I have read all of the pages you have out at least 6 or 7 times each!! How did I miss that....
But what you said about Jake being afraid of planes and all, I bet he would feel safer if Dirk was flying...? Just a guess.

Aww I love text walls XD And I love talking about this story because it holds a very special place in my heart. It has so many things I love in it (but also requires a LOT of research which was why I iniitally thought I'd never be able to flesh out the story at all ;A; but the plot is pretty much set into stone now with some additional details I need to work on. I also still need to write a lot of dialogue XD).
Of course they dooo~ It should be pretty obvious. I mean Dirk is not even wearing his shades in the whole initial scene because he trusts Jake and he also smiles rather openly here.
And Jake is just trying to be happy for Dirk : D Also because he just wants to have Dirk happy~
Haha and when I wrote the part where Jake was like: Dirk...? I wondered how many people would think stuff like: I love you! XD
You have no idea how badly I want them to kiss and stuff but for DirkJake kisses you have to be super patient. It'll be a while. A long while ;A;
Aww it also makes me so happy that you read it so often already ;A; that makes me really motivated to continue drawing soon~ To see people liking this ;A;
Well something that I don't know will be mentioned:
Jake has never been inside a plane. Dirk sometimes tried to ask if he maybe wanted to come with but he always refused. And since Dirk knows why Jake acts that way he lets it go after asking and doesn't keep nagging him about it. So he wouldn't really feel safer with Dirk flying. He is also always afraid for Dirk when he is flying.XD
Some kind of minor spoiler (hoping that you already saw pictures so you know there is a 1920's past-dirk in this story):
P-Dirk has a plane (Curtiss Jenny) and is socially rather incompetent (some kind of past-roxy being his only friend). Which means he feels personally attacked when Jake refuses to fly with him after they slowly begun to become friends. XD
Oh and by the way another random info: Eridan is the co-pilot of the 747, sollux the pilot xD I love eridan but I apologise already because Dirk is going to tease the hell out of the poor guy xD And I'm just.. not going to be nice to him in act 1 I'm sorry. (He is still adorable though)

Ohh that must be depressing...Planes are so much fun! Jake should be like kidnapped or something, and be held hostage inside of a plane. Oh my god I'd like DIE if I saw Dirk (either of them) do that.

Yes, Dirk can actually fly~ And of course he is great at it he is great at everything he does. He can fly smaller aircrafts ^_^
Concerning the 'something may have gone horribly wrong thing'... Something did go wrong but it has nothing to do with Dirk at all. That was also hinted at on page 3 and is the cause for Jake's plane anxiety.
