Description
This is an Illustrator project we had for our Digital Applications class, due today. I had wanted to start this much earlier in the semester, but I did other things, so I spent most of this week working on it nonstop, with very little sleep. However, I am very satisfied with the final result! Vector art is boring and can be a pain, but it yields some awesome results in the endAdobe Illustrator

Yes, everything is traced in Illustrator! I used the pen tool to trace, and the gradient mesh tool for the reflections and coloring. I used some patterns for the headlights.

Looks wonderful!
I never really understood Vector art to tell you the truth, but I know the results can be awesome... and this is the proof.
The amount of details is amazing!

Same here, about vector art, but with classes forcing you to use it and experiment, I'm getting the push I need to try some stuff and get used to it!
I love detail, and I was not going to skip on it! lol

Oh, wow, that's awesome! Vector art takes so much patience that I just don't have. @_@.

yeah, near the end, I was sooooooo just wanting to finish it once and for all. I watched a lot of movies and shows while doing this to keep me distracted...

Haha, sounds like when I was doing the Character Cards for my Illustrator Class! XD I was doing Pirates of the Caribbean characters, so I kept listening to The Last Saskatchewan Pirate to keep me interested.

this is amazing, the details and everything. did you trace it at first or how did you go for it? if you dont mind sharing some of the process im intrested as I've tried making a car myself the other day (not as detailed as that but still)

What I did is try to find a really high resolution image so that if you zoom it you can still see a good amount of detail. From there, I pasted into illustrator to trace.
Then I just went from section to section, tracing parts, sometimes only parts of an object (like the car panels and bumper are done in parts). This allows for more flexibility with the gradient mesh tool. This tool was used practically everywhere! You can add gradients how you like, though it's frustrating at first if you don't know how to use it. Practice is the key!
After tracing a few parts, I usually eye dropped the color underneath, added a mesh similar to what the gradient is in the picture, and matched the gradient as closely as possible. If something was too complicated for a gradient, I would add layers on top, maybe play with transparency too.
But mostly it was just tracing every car part one at a time, and adding a gradient mesh. I have A LOT of layers, not sure yet as I haven't counted, but its definitely 250+ Hope that helps! You can ask more questions if you need to as well
