Aw, what a coincidence--I started a new game in White and traded over some eggs to do a run with a specific team (Litwick, Deino, Oshawott, Tynamo, Rufflet, and Vanillish) so that's awesome to see! I love Litwick.

Yeah, you're right. I just don't like to have it seem like I'm trying to copy someone or compete with them, ya know? So I try to be careful about it. Some people can be over dramatic about things like that.

Hehe well the honest truth is, at the basic level, all artists who take commissions are competing at least to a certain extent. You can't think of people competing as a necessarily cruel act. We all need to work to survive, and while I would never suggest being cut-throat in your tactics, just because someone else sells a Jolteon sculpture doesn't mean you shouldn't. I would suggest trying to distinguish yourself in some way, because it's beneficial for you to stand out, but if you make a cheaper one that's similar, then they're the one that needs to work to make theirs worth that extra fee.
In my case, I seem to charge more than a lot of people with similar work, but I don't feel mad at them for that! Business is business and if I can't compete, that's my own job to figure out how to keep up.
In other cases, if I feel like my work is turning out similar to someone else's I've seen before, then I link to them to say they've inspired me, but I feel like in this stuff, if you're not actively working to steal from or hurt someone, you're probably not going to get yourself mixed up in anything. If the person DOES get upset, you can apologize and say sincerely that you had no intent to hurt them and at worst case, offer to take it down. Most people are very reasonable if you're honest.
