I'm totally with you on the drinking and forums ones....

Heh, I personally enjoy Sims because of getting to create my own household, and then getting to essentially "play house" as an adult....cuz it would be kind of weird and redundant to do it in real life. I find it allot more fun in the few cases where it's multiplayer, too,cuz then I can also pester the other player and cause mischief. X3

ChibiSilverWings In reply to tails-sama [2011-08-13 09:59:27 +0000 UTC]

Hahah I can understand that! I don't think people are stupid to enjoy it, I just have unfortunately, never had much fun the few times I've tried playing. None of it really appeals to me, I don't like making the characters, I don't like building the house, I don't like playing with the people I make... all of it just doesn't really engage me in the way it seems to for other people. Not to say it CAN'T be fun, just to me, it has never really hit the right chord.

The forums bit with "I hate the stuff you like" made me laugh good. Because that's what's left of a lot of comments when stripped down. So true, such a silly waste of time.
(It also makes it easier to ignore, because heck, they're allowed to hate the stuff. By all means. Unjust critique can put me in that silly defense position going "grrr" myself, but "I hate your favorite show" is just "...oh. Okay. Er, have fun with that. Or something." XD)

Spicy food... Well, wasabi is fun, I admit. Makes the back of your eyeballs water. (I can quit whenever I want.) But for actual food, I prefer something that doesn't make my tongue feel like it's full of rabid ants.

Sims. Hum. I do not understand the craze... OR maybe I do. Maybe it's the whole "I can plan the dishes but I don't have to feel the icky soapy water" thing (or setting them on fire, apparently you can do that). I think it's fun for about 5 minutes (designing characters and such), but then it's just... Doing the same things I do every day, only more, and without getting to eat the pizza myself. >3> But my brother thinks it's a lot of fun.

The Nostalgia Goggles, they do nothing. ;_; I saw how ridiculous the old Batman show was when I re-watched it. My childhood. Ouch. Why. D: Gimme 'nother version please.
...Sonic the hedgehog now exists in ten versions I can recall off the top of my head (not into all of them, but they all have their charm /moments). Nostalgia Goggles and the "true fans" syndrome cause many many Sonic fans to debate which one is "the correct Sonic" until their fingers go numb from typing, and in most cases, that really does boil down to what they saw first themselves. (Don't look at me; I'm the type of fan who combines all of them into one, then pairs him up with Mario and says Peach is mother to Bowser's kids.)

Is it just as bad among Pokemon fans? I see these stamps up now and then indicating that the whole "Gen X is better than your Gen" thing is a bit widespread but I was never really part of that "fandom" even in the perifery sense I am "part" of the Sonic fans... >_0 (I play the old Blue. I could blame Nostalgia Goggles but the truth is the new ones have too many things to keep track of for my widdle mind. XD)

...I love milk. Cold refrigerated milk, hot milk or warm, just out of the cow milk. I suspect I carry genes from those stone age folks that survived here (Sweden) because they could drink the stuff. (I do think it's freaky how casual we are about drinking baby cow fodder, but I'm like that with most "normal" things. XD)
I also noticed how it's oily. Though I only think of that when I have it in my tea.

ChibiSilverWings In reply to bitchwolf [2011-08-13 09:52:07 +0000 UTC]

Hehe we tend to agree! Also I love how many great, long comments I got on this meme XD

I've been too afraid to put wasabi on my sushi hahah I can do a tad of ginger sometimes but generally I can't @.@

And the "Nostolgia Googles" things, I don't mind old versions of things, I just believe in giving ALL versions a chance. It's not just Pokemon fans (though some are very much that way) it's also that way around Chess (the Musical) fans, and World for Darkness (and various other roleplaying tabletop games *coughD&Dcough*). I think it applies to almost ANY fandom with various incarnations of the work. I can list pretty much any long standing fandom and have hoards of people who claim "X" version is the ONLY good one. This drives me crazy because I LIKE new versions of things. So many people think it "ruins" their version for the other one to exist, and they won't even give it a chance!

I don't mind preferring one version over another, but you should try to enjoy parts of everything, everything will have it's strong and weak points. It's worthwhile to explore them, rather than outright reject them for being "new".

And I can do chocolate milk, for the most part. But I think that milk doesn't really have much of a FLAVOR for me normally, just a texture, and that texture is so oily that it puts me off. I don't mind milk in things, and I certainly enjoy thinks like milkshakes, but by itself it just makes my tongue feel all greasy!

bitchwolf In reply to ChibiSilverWings [2011-09-04 22:53:16 +0000 UTC]

I bet it's things that more people get hung up on. I know the Nostalgia Goggles are something that bugs me a silly lot some days. (When fans get in my face about it, inviting me to snarky "oldschool" groups and such, or it just pops up a lot in recent art. Bleh. I've unwatched good artist for that kind of nonsense.)

I've noticed the texture all since you said this, but I still love milk. XD I guess I like oily stuff. But then, I can drink cream for a snack some days.

Wasabi is my limit. My brother eats stuff that is way too strong for me.

And yes... I don't enjoy every Sonic version equally (for instance, not a fan of Sonic X), but I've tried all just for fun. I like to compare them, and while the first games are still my favorites, I love the Sonic Underground cartoon which is much newer and not at all like those games. XD (Also I love some characters from the new games, and combining old and new ideas... The huge story inconsistencies just BEG for fans to rewrite it better! )

I've only seen one version of Chess and it was the one with Tommy KΓΆrberg. >3>
I can bet most things with more than one version get some of that. It's ridiculous how much time they waste arguing which is the better one when they could enjoy both or all of them. XD

ChibiSilverWings In reply to bitchwolf [2011-09-08 05:49:26 +0000 UTC]

Gah me too. I can't STAND that attitude!

And I'm glad I didn't ruin milk for you XDD I like milk myself sometimes, like I like cookies soaked in it but I still can't drink it straight no matter how hard I try hahah.

And yeah. I mean, it's not fair to demand that people not have a preference to one version or another, but I think if people kept an open mind they'd enjoy parts of the new stuff that they tend to just skip over.

Wow you got to SEE Tommy Korberg in Chess? SO JEALOUS. He did a good job from the recording I have!

bitchwolf In reply to ChibiSilverWings [2012-02-17 21:45:59 +0000 UTC]

Boy this is late. I moved accounts and forgot a few convos. XD

Same here - I mean, I usually favor one (or two) versions of something, and there's time restraints forcing you to choose what to really get submerged in... But to not even look at something because it's not exactly like you're used to can make you miss out on really nice things. (I'm a fine example of the stupid, back in time, when I used to not give the new version of Sonic a sniff.) Just like you say - if you just skip past things without giving them a chance, you're likely to miss out.

Actually I didn't get to see KΓΆrberg - despite being in town, and the same theatre, the same week, back in what, 2003? Was there with my class from a sort of pre-art-school course, but we couldn't get tickets for Chess, we saw another play. (Tolstoy; the Sneeze. Great stuff, but still a bit miffed I couldn't get to see the guy.)

GabrielWings [2011-05-28 20:27:08 +0000 UTC]

About the spicy food, I like to eat in in winter because it makes me feel warm and cosy for a rather long time. Besides, it's a bit antiseptic, so people in warmer countries make their foods very spicy so all the bacteria are killed and they won't get sick from it (it's very hard to store food for longer times without it getting bad when it's hot outside all the time, so they can't really help it).

Forum trolls I don't understand, either =/ If you want a nice forum, though, check out worth1000 [link] The moderators are very strict and immediately ban spammers and close threads that become too agressive.

I can't agree with your opinion about milk, though - I love it and drink 3 to 4 liters a week

I love the sims, haha!
As for forums, I've been on a few great ones, but most are lame.
Spicy food I love the taste of, but won't eat in public (my body reacts poorly, usually I break into a sweat, literally).
Getting drunk is horrible. HORRIBLE.
I try to fight nostalgia, and I think I'm pretty good at it. That said.. I'm sure I only like Beverly Hills Teens because I watched it when I was like 3.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChibiSilverWings In reply to BlairSanne [2011-04-29 18:10:32 +0000 UTC]

Hahah well I am glad that a lot of people like it, I just wish I could get why heheh

And yeah, I'll say that SOMETIMES forums are nice, but it so often fosters the sort of stupid comments that just... aren't worth it.

Drunk = Fail. It is true.

And haha I don't mind people ENJOYING the shows they liked as a kid, I just hate it when they basically use it as a reason to hate new things.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlairSanne In reply to ChibiSilverWings [2011-04-30 08:21:23 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! I don't understand the whole "I liked something as a child so nothing new can ever come of that series or I will RAGE AT IT!" mentality.

I generally try to take a fair look at things and decide if I like them or not. And I try not to care too much if people like/dislike things, but sometimes it's hard not to defend something you like when people have no real reason to dislike it. >.<

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChibiSilverWings In reply to BlairSanne [2011-04-30 16:36:23 +0000 UTC]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlairSanne In reply to ChibiSilverWings [2011-05-01 06:41:15 +0000 UTC]

Yes! My sister once told me "I'd NEVER date someone who played D&D" like D&D was the same as killing babies or something. Awkward because I play D&D and so do most of my friends. >.<

But as for the Sims, you can give them free will, so they actually act on auto-pilot if you want them to!
I have Sims 3 and it's really fun! But many people will tell you - the fun of the Sims is designing the houses!

Oh man high fives. I'm playing in my fiancee's Mage game right now. I can't say I like Mage as much as Werewolf or just general WOD, but... STILL FUN.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlairSanne In reply to ChibiSilverWings [2011-05-01 19:59:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah we have a lot of elements of old werewolf mixed in. We're running a new mage game, with some changeling (old and new all mixed up) thrown in there, some vampires (I have no idea how we're running those)...
Basically our players are Mages, but they interact with NPCs of the other supernatural groups from time to time. The city has a "Treaty" in place where none of the groups can attach each other, and it's all bound up in fae magic. I get to play the Unseelie fairy queen, Lady Mab, who oversees the treaty and gets final say on everything. SO FUN.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChibiSilverWings In reply to BlairSanne [2011-05-01 21:15:32 +0000 UTC]

Hahah our game is pretty similar. New WOD mages interacting with Vampires, Geniuses (fanmade, basically like Promethean/Mages mixed, they're "mad" scientists.), and Werewolves (mostly because spirits are the COOLEST enemies in the games really.)

Yeah too much AWESOME. I signed up for Gencon today too so I'm seriously in the gamer mood right now XD
