In the episode, "Bismuth" its suggested that Centipeedle used to be a Nephrite. I believe it. Look at her gem, almost the same color.Β

Oh god the pain of this episode. What a gut punch! There has to be some way to fix what the diamonds did to her and the other corrupt gems.

I strongly feel it's something we'll see, eventually. It does seem to be bothering Steven since this happened, and we've seen the range of emotions she had when freed. When Connie commented how corrupt gems are like animals -a series of basic fight or flight responses- it kind've bothered me.

I dunno, some gems do look like they have flight or fight type of responses, but i think it's normal under pressure of if they are scared. Humans seem to have the same response under a lot of pressure. I'm loving how they are showing that the currupted gems can still communicate and have some sort of feelings, but it's not at the level of what could be considered human. Dont get me wrong, i know centipeedle appeared to know steven and thank him after she was healed a bit, but she didnt do that before that episode nor we've seen other corrupted gems doing it. Β But i could be wrong, i hope they show more of thisΒ

I want to say it's because they have no way to convey it, but it's a show, so that might be true. Outside the show, even fish have been found to have chemical responses similar to higher functioning mammals. It was assumed in the 1800's they were just robotically going about their brute animal automated route of basic action and reaction. Connie's comment seemed along those lines, and I'm hoping if this is true that she'll grow an appreciation for the higher level thinking that does exist in other creatures in the way Steven seems to be gaining as a more empathetic personality.

you're totally right, I really hope thats where the show is headed.
By the way, i really like how the show is progressing and our view of the corrupted gems are changing along with steven's preception of them. Like, on the first episodes the corrupted gems really did look like mindless beasts with "brute animal automated route of basic action and reaction" (just like you said, i can't put it in other words) and by the current episode they seem more than that and have more thought put in them, more personality i guess, i cant seem to find the right words right now

Yeah, the maturing of the show, lol. I remember how I was slogging through the Cookie Cat episode and Steven's case of First World Problemitis, and now, holy crapola. XD I hoped the show was going somewhere, and holy wow, did it ever. As you say, this show was that light at first, gaining a young audience while presenting a mysterious element read between the lines. It really has matured as the audience matured, and heck, adults too often underestimate kids and their ability to take on big issues watered down even when just, say, nine years old. We still get these silly or ridiculous moments, but now they're more callbacks and moments to breathe than actual main elements, and I'm very glad for that. You're right about the corrupted gems and shards too in how we've had our perspectives of them slowly shifted toward sympathetic through Steven's decision.
Sorry for the paragphs, btw, it's just really exciting to finally find someone who likes to talk in-depth about the show. My love for it is a silent and shameful thing outside my fanart, so thanks for being cool, I guess is what I'm saying. <: )

But the writers don't dole out the kind of realsies where you can't watch another episode, just the kind that makes you want to know more and know that the shows not just going to start killing off faves because of ratings or some other boardroom nonsense. Everyone has a chance to come back in this, and I love it!
