Description
This was my submission for the Hey Arnold Creative Ideas Facebook Group ([link] ) 30 Day Drawing Challenge Day 13: ZombiesThe creator of the challenge said we could use the prompt as a "springboard for inspiration and a way to challenge yourself" route rather than the drawing actual zombies route. Thus, I chose the springboard path.
Here's my train of thought for anyone interested: Since I have really vivid, gruesome nightmares if I draw (or see T_T) anything scary, I knew drawing "traditional" zombies would be a bad idea. So then I started thinking of positive aspects, like Halloween. But I've already drawn Hey Arnold characters in Halloween costumes, so that wouldn't be much of a challenge. My friends and I say we're zombies when we're super tired, so I also considered drawing a passed out Miriam, but again not much of a challenge.
Then I remembered that the priest at the mass I go to did a homily about the movie Zombieland. While I've never seen it, the point of his homily was that the real zombieland is OUR world, where we blindly or purposely hurt others, where we ignore those in trouble, where we are "moral zombies" and go with the flow instead of considering what is really right and end up destroying others when we do this. The way to remain human in this zombieland is to show compassion and concern for others and to do the right thing--even to people who have hurt us and even when we have a lot of pain or suffering in our own lives. And when we do this, we can help those who have been turned into zombies regain their humanity too.
So that's what I decided to try to illustrate, and it was challenging to figure out how to make such an abstract ideal into a simple drawing. Arnold has pain and suffering too, but he does the right thing and helps those who are suffering, no matter who they are or what they have done to him. And those simple acts of kindness help people, like Helga, regain their humanity.

wow, such thought! I would have just gone with a simple zombie. I think you really pushed yourself for these challenges and it makes me so proud to see such great end results. ^_^

When I first saw the title it sounded like a Darth Vader scenario where Helga becomes a sarcastic bully towards the other girls at school, but then Arnold, fearing that she's going down a dark path, helps her to see the error of her ways.

Ooh that would make an interesting story! The content is similar to what I was going for in this drawing, but I guess in this case Arnold intervenes before Helga takes out her frustration on others.

But somewhere before Arnold redeems her (maybe Gerald tags along too), Helga would isolate herself from Pheobe kinda like how Anakin isolated himself from Obi Wan.

So true, but sadly we shoot them most of the time in our country Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield (Eugene Debs forgotten man), (American Labor Unions 1930s forgotten too) John F. Kennedy & his younger brother Robert, Martin Luther King Jr., & John Lennon all because they tuned to the colored (non-White Nordic/East Asian), the poor, and disabled over the privilaged. Luckly if you write book the government doesnt find you a threat because only a few actually read.

Yep, we either shoot them, shun them, or just don't even listen to them.
Heh that's good to know that books are still a way to influence change without getting the government on your back...but kind of sad that so few people read anymore.
