I realized there seems to be very few pictures of Luna in the sunlight and decided to fix that. This was supposed to be a speed painting but that stopped when I got to Luna. Was also going to put her in armor, but socks just seemed like the right thing to do.Photoshop CS6 || Wacom Intuos3 6X8 || ~2 days on and off

Luna: Oh! Do I enjoy to look at thou rising each morning, sunne. I observed your movement dictaded by my sister from my lunar prison for a thousand years. My moon can't stand to your light and your warmth make this world livable. I may be the princess of the night, but I miss the time when I was still a alicorn living in the day. I enjoy those rare moments when I stay awake to by in your light with my sister, even though it weakens me. But it is only occasional and I must sleep to work on my noctural duties.
Celestia appeared from behind her on the balcony, a bit surprised to see her little sister there.
Celestia: Luna? To who were you talking just now?
Luna: Sister? *she turned her head in her direction* You were there all the time?
Celestia: I only heard your last sentence.
Celestia walked to Luna's side and sitted close to her on the border of the balcony.
Celestia: What is that occasional thing that you mentioned?
Luna: I... I was refering to the times when I'm awoken in the day.
Celestia: What about them?
Luna: I enjoy them.
Celestia: Really? That surprise me that you like the day although your magic get weaker in this period.
Luna: I enjoy them mostly because I am in your presence, sister. It reminds me of the past sometimes.
Celestia: You mean that you miss the old days when you weren't the princess of the night?
Luna: S-sometimes. I love the night and I enjoy to show it in my night sky every night. But I...
Celestia: What is it?
Luna: I can't stop myself to comtemplate this morning star of your..... it's beauty.... it's sheer beauty....
Celestia: Luna? Are you... crying?
Luna: What? A princess can't shear a tear by the emotion of looking something she enjoy to watch? Is that wrong for you?
Celestia: Not at all! But.... maybe you shouldn't stare at the sun so directly.
Luna: Sister! Don't take me for a foal! I knew that already!
Celestia: Ummm.... I'm over there.
Luna: Huh?
Celestia: Don't move. *her horned glowed and her magic flowed to Luna's eyes to heal them* There.
Luna: Sister! You know very well it would have healed...
Celestia: I understand you want to enjoy this moment of the day at its fullest, but be more careful, please.
Luna: Humph! I will.
Celestia: What with the socks?
Luna: Huh? Oh, these? I like to wear them when I'm close to go to bed.
Celestia: Why? Does it make any difference to your sleep?
Luna: Not really. I just enjoy their warmth and their softest on my hooves, something my shoes don't. *she stood up* Time to sleep now. I'm off to bed...
Celestia: Uh.... Luna?
Luna: Yes, sister?
Celestia: Do... Are they that confortable?
Luna: You mean the socks? *Celestia nodded* Well, get yourself a double pair by demanding them to be made for you. I'm sure they will without hesitation. *grin* Good day sister.
Wonderful work. I agree that is rare to see Luna watching a sunrise. The socks raises her cute factor

Wow! I find the title to be very appropriate for this piece! Dawn! The way that you simply crafted the essence of dawn through your style is wonderful! The character dewign is great as always and I love the way that you adds a sort of relatable flare with the socks! The fine details on the wings and the mane and tail as well make the piece just sing with radiant beauty! The wispy clouds catch just enough light to give them a realistic look and I love how the shading bends and curves with the environment! The design of the balcony is also very magnificent and it looks solid to the eyes! One of the most alluring parts of this piece has to be the amazing sense of scale here! You can feel the height and be immerded in the piece! Also, the way that the colors come together is simply stunning! Yet another amazing piece by one who has become one of my favorite artists! Um, it peculiar seeing socks in this kind of pictures. I am not saying that that is something bad, just curious. Anyway, great job, both with Luna and the background. Other effects as the illumination and shading are spectacular as well. Drawing this must have been really difficult.

True, the socks were an after thought. I actually already had armor designed for her but it would've cluttered the scene more then I wanted and I thought socks added the right touch of detail and contrast and looked good to me so I left them in.
Thanks! I wouldn't say it was particularly hard, just takes practice, and painting the background first makes it easier because it sets the lighting up for me.

Beautiful work! I love how you lit the scene; the warm sunlight is very soothing. That night-to-day transition in the sky is gorgeous too.
