Description
Pose reffed from littlekirara.deviantart.com/ar… I think I may just use this pose for all my TLK character refs, that way I don't have to try to come up with a unique pose for each individual (and I figured this pose could suit a lot of different characters)I've been waiting to introduce this gal for a while now! I received this lovely lady as a custom adopt from StarryEyes880 a few years ago, but she wound up being forgotten when my computer got hacked and I lost her file, as well as several other adopts I got from the same person. I ventured into the dense jungles of DA and dug them all back up, I've already made "movie colors" and am in the middle of creating stories for each of them (^Hers is the only one that's nearly "complete") Her name is Insha, meaning "Composition" in Swahili, and I've decided to use her as Sarabi, Dwala, Diku, and Naanda's mother <3 Ain't she a beaut? Thanks for designing her, Starry! starryeyes880.deviantart.com/a… < Here's the original ^^
I added the cross-shaped scar and the rip at the bottom of her left ear, since that half of her head wasn't really visible, the main difference is the little hair tuft (added for creative effect as well as to make her resemble her daughters) but I figured it was minor enough that it didn't really matter if I changed it
Anywho, hope you like her as much as I do ^^

Geeeeez! She's just dripping with self assurance and esteem. So much urge to punch in the face, so much tempered by big-catness...

Fuckin' smug ass lions...They think they're BETTER than everyone just because they help maintain the food chain in the Serengeti and make cute protagonists for children's films...Tigers can totally kick their asses, they just don't wanna' fess up to it- they think they're safe as long as all the striped big cats stay in Russia and Asia

Of course if they don't we get ligers...
Now let's have a movie about THEM!

'So the confused young lion starts actually *talking* to the hyenas which of course just makes everyone *more* angry at him. Things are setting up for a big clash of cultures, a war of worldviews.
Then the liger's all like "STFU" and eats everyone.'

She's perty~ I love her eyes, especially. And it's hard to make scars look good but you do it very well.
I have a question though. What's the story behind her name, "composition"?

Thanks! <3 Typically, the names of my TLKOCs are chosen at random (I tend to go with names I like or think suits the character, regardless of meaning) and then a story is built around the meaning of that name- a composition is the combining of distinct parts or elements to form a whole, so I may use this as a reference to her unique appearance or any interesting personality traits I give her or maybe even her resemblance to her parents or relatives (since she shares physical traits of theirs combined into one individual)

No problem.
Oh, I see! You pick pretty/interesting names and then backpedal. I think we're all guilty of that.
And that's a very smart way to justify her name. She seems like a very interesting character, I wish I could see her in action.
Sometimes in fact, you might not even need to mention the meaning of the names of some of your characters, or at least, not in-story. And if anyone translates the names they'll have a lot of fun trying to figure out why you gave them that name.
Swahili is a good language to use. I mean, I know using Swahili names is a TLK fan tradition, sort of, but it's also just generally good to use. More obvious languages like Latin tend to give the meaning away right away and have little subtlety. Like, Latin for "death" is "mortua." Good luck trying to hide the obvious designated evil villain in your story with a name like that.

Yep! That's what I love about certain names, sometimes they can describe the character without telling their story (Mohatu's name meaning "Beloved", and then he's described in the story as being a beloved king)
That's why I've mostly been using Czech words for my "Gryphon's Blood" characters, when I'm not coming up with confusing portmanteaus or nonsense words to use as names (Astrumazeichyra's name is supposed to have originated from the Latin word "Astra", Moranaja's name was derived from the word "Naja" part of the scientific name for the Indian Cobra)

Haha, yea, that's awesome! One of the things I find particularly interesting is when the name has a meaning, but there's no obvious indication as to why they have it. Because then you're trying to search for one or make up fan theories as to their past and all.
Czech's definitely another good language to use. ^^ I don't think I could ever use it though because I'm not comfortable with it; I don't understand it well enough (that is, at all! XD) Doesn't it have a set of pronunciation rules that are pretty unique?
One thing I often do is give significant characters names that are seemingly mundane, and I feel that if I succeed as a writer, then the character himself/herself will give meaning to the name, rather than the other way around. I love doing this with my human characters, especially.
For example, Albus is a bad dude. Crazy and more than a little pathetic, to boot. But his name simply means "white" in Latin, cause his fur is white. I mean, I doubt his mother would have named him something like "insanus" unless she was just plain mean. (And "Caligula" who he's supposed to sort of resemble, is too obvious to anyone who's a history lover, like me xD) So I gave him a name that's supposed to be common, in-story, something that nobody would think anything of. But I hope that if I write him well enough, that by the end of the story, the readers will think of the prospect of one of the characters naming her new son "Albus" as insane.
The bottom line is, I LOVE playing with these name tropes.
I think those "nonsense" names are pretty good; you hid the meanings well enough but didn't completely bury them.
although, I would really like to ask, can you please assist me in pronouncing Astrumazeichyra's name? I'm afraid I'm at a loss.

Her name is pronounced "azz-troo-mah-zay-hye-rah", the "ch" is suppose to be pronounced like the "h" in Hanukkah, the "r"s are rolled, and the one "s" is pronounced as a "z" sound XD even I occasionally get tongue-tied saying her name, especially with the emphasis on the "ch" part

Oh wow. I think after about...50 tries, I might get it right.
I'm just too hardwired for English.
So I take it that she also has the longest name of all of your little thought-children?

Believe it or not, she doesn't XD the one with the longest name would be the allegedly immortal white lion, Yeyambalikukunyo (yay-ahm-ball-ee-koo-koo-neo), which is a portmanteau of "Yeye ambaye alikuwa kuzaliwa kutoka nyota" meaning "He who was birthed from the stars" in Swahili (however, he features in a different original story, not "The Gryphon's Blood")

Oh wow! That's a gold-metal name right there. I think you win. The longest of my thought-children's names is Mayor Ronald Sloat III. He's got like seven middle names and then that fancy little "the third" added on there. But it's so much easier when his friends just call him "Abner," and everyone else just calls him "Mayor."
Yeyambalikukunyo.
Imagine trying to fit that on a name tag. Is there a shortened version. You know, a call-name?
What original story of yours is he from?

Within the story itself, he is always addressed by his full name due to his God-like status, when he's not mentioned by name, he is referred to simply as "The Spirit", however I've grown to calling him "Kunyo"
He's a supporting character in an old story I'd kinda' abandoned called "Timbavati" child-of-hades.deviantart.com/… < Fail pic, but all that really matters is the story

Thanks ^^ it was something I cooked up after reading about various feral children as well as reports of hate crimes against albinos in Tanzania, at that time I had also been studying the Skinwalkers of Native American legend and other mythological Shapeshifters
It's kinda' a long story, how about we discuss it in notes? :3
