Description
I'm back to humanizing gemstones! It's been awhile but I do want to keep up with this series. I LOVE rocks and I love humanizing things. Soooo.... Alexandrite was one of the first stones I wanted to do. But every design I came up with for him I didn't really like. Alexandrite is a naturally color changing gemstone that will change from red or purple to blue or green depending on what kind of light it is in.I will do a more refined version of this guy in the future.

I...can actually see that! I like him in the Inspector General. Did you know he wanted to play the lead in Fiddler on the roof, but was turned down?

Reminds me of my gemsona Alexandrite. Loving its colors.

Thanks! Heh. I've seen quite a few lab grown Alexandrites, but only one or two real ones. Real ones are ridiculously rare and insanely expensive.

He most certainly is. I'm thinking he might actually be a hidden prince. Alexandrite was named after a Russian Czar so it seems appropriate.

That would be appropriate indeed.

I'm thinking maybe he was secretly put in an orphanage at a young age, perhaps when there was a change of rulership. He grew up basically on the streets and started his career with shell games and tricks on the street.

Irides had her beginnings on the street as well, except the whole town looked out for her. Sounds like these two would get along just fine.

Oh, really?
They probably would!
I'm kind of trying to come up with a world that these people can exist in. Something that mostly resembles Earth but a little different. At first it was just character designs for the fun of it...but I kind of want somewher ethey can be. I want to be able to mix different styles from all different eras.

Yep. Reem tend to absorb widows, orphans, and homeless into their families. Irides liked having multiple families to stay with.

That's good. Even alien ones?
This guy could have used something like that. But of course he/they always had each other.

They would have, but aliens have not arrived on Chryshalla. The Wandering Star picked up a couple of strays, like Catfish, back in her glory days.

Yeah, I don't think Flyspur or Nik are going to like her if she ever shows up.

Yeah, especially since I just realized something new about her, but it's a bit spoilery at the moment.

Thanks! I was pretty excited when the twin thing came to me. I had tried perhaps three other designs in the past but they just didn't fit and didn't represent that super cool color changing feature well enough.
I'm thinking this guy might be unknown royalty (as Alexandrite was named after Czar Alexander). Perhaps secretly shuffled away to an orphanage because of his unusual predicament. And despite growing up virtually on the streets and growing up as a bit of a sheister still retains a bit of a royal air about him.

Yeah, you most definitely got it with this one. Ooo, that is an interesting concept with the royalty thingy. I love good mysteries!

Yah, crazy in several ways! The part that especially gets me is that Washington State cared enough about it to try and put the mother - whose body the children came from and who had been there for years caring for them - in prison. I remember a quote I read from the old obstetrician that delivered her two earlier children, along the lines of, "You know, I've been doing this for 40 years and I think I can tell when a child comes out of someone in front of me." For that matter, I used to work in child protection for a different state, and the law there was, "If you are listed on the birth certificate - and all the more so if you have been around and raised the child - It's Your Child...period and end of story!"

Thanks! I love doing these mineral humanizations. It's so fun looking up the information about them and trying to incorporate it into a character design.
