Description
When an investigation of a piece of unfamiliar technology, rumored to have the mastery over space and time, goes horribly awry Captain Rover Finnigan is frozen in time as a younger version of him is brought to the present. While Dr. Cloud and the ship's physicist work on the alien technology, trying to un-freeze their captian, Flyspur is charged with looking after Rover's younger self. I have a feeling it's going to be hard when they have to return the little guy to his own time.

Yep. Little rover is lots of trouble (just like his adult counterpart) but he is a sweet little thing that doesn't mean any harm.

Flyspur jumps and rubs his arm. "Wh--what was that for?" His brows come together in complete confusion. "Isn't beef the meat they make from cutting up cows?"

Part of me wonders just how happy Flyspur is to have a child to care for. Even one as difficult as Rover. XD

He was a caretaker, or babysitter/housekeeper, for his family on Jssfloon and he enjoyed taking care of the children. Rover's such a handful as an adult that I don't think he really realized he missed kids until now. Of course, human babies are a good deal harder to deal with than Jssfloon children. So he has quite a bit of a learning curve, here.

Thanks so much! It's from a series type thing I'm working on called 'Hi Ho Hyperdrive', which I'm hoping will be a collection of comics. I'm working on establishing the characters right now.

You should totally have Flyspur start trying to build a relationship with the crew's child genius after this. I do remember you liking that suggestion when I made it.

I did really love the idea. I'm still kind of working on it and it might change in the future but I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a couple. Mostly because very VERY rarely do you ever see a happily married couple in the entertainment industry and especially in sci fi. And an overly loving 1950's type couple that tend to run off on their own little conversations that have nothing to do with the task at hand....I thought that might be fun. Kind of like the Howells from Gilligan's Island, but not rich and snooty.

Also, the coloring on this is great. I had no idea you were using markers--always just kinda assumed you were doing everything digitally, never noticed that it was listed as "traditional art" until now--that's amazing. YOU'RE amazing. I love your stuff and hope to be able to do pieces like this myself someday!
Lastly...is it totally weird that I think Flyspur is kinda hot? Mostly because of his personality of course, since he's an alien and all... but he just seems like a sweet and solid guy, motivated and able to get things done while also being loyal and kind. And I like that. And these pictures of him being all fatherly has a strange appeal too. Even though I don't really have any interest in having kids of my own, it's just kinda attractive to see guys who are good with kids, you know? ...Or maybe that's just me, Idk.
I have a little crush on Flyspur, I guess. haha

Thank you so much! Well, MOST of the Hi Ho Hyperdrive I've done so far has been mostly digital. But this one was done in copic markers. Oh, I'm sure you can! You've got a great hold on shading!!!

Is there any particular reason that Rover can't remember anything from his childhood? I can speculate that he lost it during the crash that landed him on Jssfloon; but im not the artist here, im just the admirer

Awww! Thanks! He would make a good parent. Even though he can't have kids of his own he still has a strong nurturing instinct, which is probably why he's such a good friend to Rover in the first place...Rover never has really grown up and Flyspur's constantly looking out for him.
At the same time he lost his arm he received a hard blow to his head. Along with his mechanical arm he has a large metal plate on the left side of his head but it's mostly healed over and covered up by his hair and hat.
Cow? Where? LOL! Thank you so much. They are called Copic markers. They're alcohol based instead of water based, and they blend SOOOOOOOO much better than regular markers. They're kind of spendy, though. I can only buy one like once a month.

I'm glad you caught that!! Rover calling him that is actually one of the things that cheers him up a little after having to return the kid to his own time. He kind of wonders if Rover unconsciously remembers...

Rover's nickname for Flyspur has always been 'Blue', and although he doesn't remember ANY of his childhood, I think unconsciously he remembers this.
