Description
Morning sunlight bathed the wooded hillside in gold as a cool breeze from the ocean sent the patch of little blue flowers dancing merrily. The two figures that stood among them, looking down on the town below and the waiting carriage, were not so happy."Dublin is so far. Do ye have to go?"
Larna sighed and shook her head with a sad smile. "Ye know dad. Everything has to be perfect before he's happy with it. That includes me, I suppose." She took Clancy's big hands in her dainty ones. "But don't ye be frettin' yer head over me, ye hear? I'll be back. Me aunt can't put up with me for long." She gave him a wink and scrunched up her nose in a mischievous smile. "I'll see to that."
He couldn't help but return her smile. He squeezed her hands before bending down and plucking one of the flowers at their feet. He held it out to her. "Well, while ye're skippin' around that big bonny city with all it's lights and learnin', don't forget yer hometown country boy, eh?"
She took it and held it close for a moment, then tucked it behind one ear, letting it mingle with her long black hair. She shook her head slowly. "Oh, Clancy. There are very few impossible things in this world. But forgetting you..." She leaned in and kissed his cheek. "That's one of them."
His whole face turned almost as red as his hair.
Her soft smile turned playful. "Those ears of yours, they're the size of dinner plates. They're burned eternally in my memory. I could NEVER forget them!"
He laughed and opened his mouth to reply when a voice echoed up the hill.
"LARNA!"
Larna gave him one last glance, her green eyes full of regret. "Goodbye." She turned and ran down the hill, her black hair bouncing across her back, as if waving him one last farewell.
He stood there, frozen, watching her climb inside the coach and ride off, feeling with every clop of hooves, his heart being pulled further away.

D'awwww, Clancy's the cutest~
The little story here is so darn cute!! And lol at "your ears are the size of dinner plates, I could never forget them!" XDD
I also love the soft, warm glow in this picture, especially the sun coating the back of his hair~

Ain't he though! While they look almost identical they are certainly two distinct personalities. While Rover completely confident in almost everything he does and absolutely sure theres sunshine around the corner, Clancy is a little more toned down. Oh, he's still an optimist and a dreamer, but he's more aware of hardships and failures than Rover. And here....he's quite afraid she won't come back.
Heh. She's got some spunk in her.
Thank you!

He is!!
And I see. Rover's the one with his head in the clouds, and Clancy's got his feet on the ground, to put it that way.
And well, she won't come back...for now. But eventually~ And gotta love spunky!
You're welcome!

Yep. Exactly! Clancy can still be quite impulsive and he still has a wandering imagination and loves to tell fanciful stories. But he is more aware of responsibility and accountability. In an era and area where his family is barely getting by he has to be a hard and diligent worker.
She's a bit of a quandry. To anyone who doesn't know her she can appear quiet, very submissive and even a little bit shy. But with people she's close to she is mischievous, adventitious and quite the tease.

Aw! Thanks! Its funny, the story only came when I decided on the flower. As soon as I saw they had forget me nots in Ireland it just fell into place.
So glad you like! I've been doing more digital painting lately than using outlining and gradients. I can't decide which I like better.

It's fun reading the Irish accents.
This is really well done! The lighting, and the background, with the depth-of-field, and those particles floating back there add a nice atmospheric touch. And 'dem little blue flowers.

Ha ha! Its fun writing them!
Thank you so much! I am so inexperienced with backgrounds so I'm happy this one came out nicely.
At first I was just looking up Irish flowers with nothing in particular in mind. Then I saw that forget me nots grew there and the story came with the picture.

Well you right it well! Irish is my favorite.
Very welcome! It did! About how long did this take you to paint?
Haha! Well that's convenient! I never knew what forget me nots looked like. I know I've been seeing these little flowers around town, and I love the color, a nice periwinkle. I guess they're called flax? Anyway I wanna see if we can plant some of those around our house.

Oh good! Its such a fun accent!
One day. I worked on it most of the day, from sketch to completion.
Me neither!
It would be a pretty flower to have around!

It is! I rather wish they had an Irish accent for Siri, cuz I would love to have an Irish computer voice.
Nice!
I guess I forgot to remember to find out what they look like before!
That's what I thought! Periwinkle is my favorite color. I heard those flax spread pretty well too.

The flower is actually called a 'forget-me-not'. And as it does grow in Ireland I thought it would be quite an appropriate flower for this picture.
Thank you!
