Description Rover reeeeeaaaaallly hates paperwork.  He'd rather seal a deal with a smile and a handshake.  But that isn't always the way it works.

(Rover, Flyspur and all HI HO Hyperdrive characters belong to me)

I love that little confident quirk up one side to Rover's smile in panel 1, and Flyspur's startled expression in panel 5 the best-- but really, all of the panels are fun and expressive, and very "in character." The posing, the multiple angles--it's all wonderful!  Do you ever do a series of drawing and think ... wait, that one isn't quite "them" or do they always turn out this marvelously?

Oh, he loves it when a deal comes together!
Thanks so much!!

I don't think I've ever done pictures out of character. But at times I've wanted to write dialogue for them that they just didn't what to say.

Sometimes I've posed a character awkwardly or gotten a nose wrong. Noses are tricky.  Yes! I know exactly what you mean when you're trying to write dialogue and the characters argue back or change the wording. Inevitably I end up siding with the characters because they know themselves better than I do... even if they came from my mind.

Ha ha!  Yes!  Noses are tricky.  Especially getting it to look like the same nose from the side and front.

Agreed.

Thanks so much! Yeah. Rover is quite pleased with himself as if he had just done all that work on his own.

Zeragii In reply to chill13 [2016-01-19 14:14:29 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I don't blame him for not wanting to do paperwork-Yuck!
And Flyspur's just nice enough that he's actually do it. And Rover knows that.

Yep.  He's got a good pal, there.  And really, Flyspur likes to be useful.

Hahah! Wow, nice move, Rover X''3 I feel you, though. I'm in the middle of finishing this online class packet due this week, and it's tedious -__-;

It's totally what I would do. Lol!

LabelPerginu In reply to chill13 [2016-01-18 18:56:30 +0000 UTC]

Of course, if I were in his shoes, I'd rather split up the load between Flyspur and I; maybe that'd be a simpler solution c'x

chill13 In reply to LabelPerginu [2016-01-18 19:02:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. The more working on it the better. Although Rover just plaien doesn't want to do it.

KatysCornerTx [2016-01-18 03:55:04 +0000 UTC]

Flyspur walked into that one.  He should've known that Rover would take any opening to *not* have to do the paperwork himself.  lol!

chill13 In reply to KatysCornerTx [2016-01-18 04:25:25 +0000 UTC]

For sure! Rover can't stand sedentary work. It drives him nuts.

This style is so fun and cute! I love the obvious emotions, like you can hear their thoughts.

In the last panel, he way Rover struts away, like "Well, another job well done!" and Flyspur's "Of course..." face are both priceless.

They're both so adorable in this. Fantastic job!

Also, really curious about the little robotic dude. XD

chill13 In reply to ChrystalK [2016-01-17 23:50:55 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!!

Heh. Yeah! You nailed them. Rover's all proud of himself as if he had just accomplished simething. And Flyspur isn't the least surprised.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrystalK In reply to chill13 [2016-01-18 00:19:25 +0000 UTC]

XD That's what's awesome about those two. Rover does the talking while Flyspur does the 'behind the scenes' kinda stuff.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chill13 In reply to ChrystalK [2016-01-19 00:22:16 +0000 UTC]

For sure. Rover tries to avoid menial tasks as much as possible, while most of the time Flyspur is perfectly happy sitting down and doing research or pouring over paperwork.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrystalK In reply to chill13 [2016-01-23 21:46:23 +0000 UTC]

I have a feeling that, if Flyspur got sick, Rover would be a gigantic mess. He probably wouldn't drop paperwork in Flyspur's lap if he was sick, so he'd be forced to either pawn it off on some other member of the crew or just do it himself. He'd probably have a whole new level of appreciation for Flyspur. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chill13 In reply to ChrystalK [2016-01-23 21:56:20 +0000 UTC]

Oh, my goodness, yes!  While most of what Flyspur does seems to be boring background work, what he does really is essential to the working of the Nellie-Bell.  He fills out all the permission forms that allow them to be where they need to be, he does in-depth research on the planets and areas that they will visit--Rover does a bit of that too, but certainly not as thoroughly as Flyspur--He is basically the gatherer of essential information.  They would get shot down more than half the time if he didn't fill out all those boring forms that Rover just doesn't want to bother with.

Yeah, if Flyspur was out of commission for very long Rover would have a lot of trouble.

ChrystalK In reply to chill13 [2016-01-25 01:26:15 +0000 UTC]

XD Unfortunately Rover would probably act as if nothing happened afterwards...

chill13 In reply to ChrystalK [2016-01-25 01:35:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh, of course.  If he fell flat on his face and nearly got the ship shot out of the sky because he put an X on the wrong line he'd do his best to not let Flyspur know it.

ChrystalK In reply to chill13 [2016-01-27 20:58:28 +0000 UTC]

I wonder just how many "bloopers" Rover has had; and how many he's managed to hide from Flyspur.

I can just picture his secret keeping skills in action:

"Hey! This ain't gonna be like that one time when I nearly got us all killed!"

"What?!"

"Hehe...whoops..."

chill13 In reply to ChrystalK [2016-01-28 06:48:09 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha! He's not very good at keeping secrets. His mouth runs twice as fast as his brain.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrystalK In reply to chill13 [2016-01-28 20:31:02 +0000 UTC]

It seems like it's the opposite with Flyspur. He spends twenty minutes thinking about what he'll say, while Rover just says stuff and spends twenty minutes trying to remember what he said. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chill13 In reply to ChrystalK [2016-01-28 20:35:31 +0000 UTC]

Flyspur's method for anything is very deliberate and thought out.  While Rover's motto is: "Ready, fire, aim."

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrystalK In reply to chill13 [2016-01-28 20:52:29 +0000 UTC]

For a minute, I thought that Rover's motto made sense. Until I realized that "fire" and "aim" are switched...

Teehee! Funny and cute. Rover and Flyspur are always adorable, but somehow they seemed extra-cute in some of these panels, to me. I really like Rover's pose in the first panel, with his boot-toes perked up and his tummy sticking out. And Flyspur's face looks quite sweet in the fourth one.

I bet it would take less time for Flyspur to do it than Rover.
