Description Another expression doodle for Rover and foreshortening practice.  (been doing a lot of those lately, I just enjoy drawing him)
But this one actually had a preliminary idea to it......which will be a story  one day.

The Hyperdrive crew come across a small wormhole.  But it's not just ANY wormhole.  It's intelligent.  They are not sure whether it is some sort of AI or if it's actually a lifeform, but it is telepathic and grant's Rover-being the captain- his greatest wish, creating a portal to Earth.  The wormhole is small and can't actually fit a vessel through, so Rover, being far too anxious to see 'home' uses a second-hand cargo teleport they had in the hold to send him and Flyspur planetside.  The device malfunctions, separating the two of them and knocking them both senseless.

Rover wakes up, none the worse for wear in a little wood-floored medical clinic in a dusty fronteer town.  He doesn't realize it but the wormhole not only sent him to the PLACE he wanted but it could read the images in his head and sent them to the time that matched closest..the 1880s.  While his arm is certainly a curiosity he is accepted pretty quickly by most of the population.  He gets to experience everything that he has always dreamed of; riding horses, eating apple pie, stepping through those fun swinging saloon doors.  In all the excitement, actually meeting humans for the first time, almost an entire day goes by before he remembers that Flyspur was supposed to be with him.  Then he panics.

Flyspur, meanwhile wakes up and is promptly chased through the forest by a guy with a rifle who is certain he's some kind of creature from the Devil.  After escaping he makes friends with an Indian who was traveling the same forest.  He promises to help Flyspur find Rover, who is probably in the nearby town.  Flyspur tries to stay in the shadows and alleys of the town as he searches, not wanting a repeat of his last encounter with a human.  Unfortunately he is seen and just as Rover is stepping outside to see what all the shouting is about a shot is fired............  (above picture)

I have an idea of some things that happen after that, but as for an actual ending...I'm not sure.

(this idea was originally just a plot bunny that crossed over Hi Ho Hyperdrive with Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.  I just loved the idea of Rover meeting Brian, Grace, Hank...and Flyspur meeting Cloud Dancing.  But as I couldn't publish a crossover like that, it's just a generic western town instead of Colorado Springs, although I might have some similar character types)

(Rover and Hi Ho Hyperdrive belong to me)

This was just a doodle on lined notepaper.  I tried to clean it up as best I could, but you can still tell. Sorry.

I LOVE doing crossovers with tv shows or movies but I haven't done too much crossing over with my Hi Ho Hyperdrive characters.  (except a couple pics with another DA artist)

Well......The cat ears sound awesome.  But like you said I don't think I'd like him as a person.

SORRY FOR RIDICULOUSLY LONG COMMENT!

And almost all of it ramble about my stuff that you probably aren't interested in. I really do apologize.

I've only recently started being able to share more information about the worlds and characters I'm working on and how I work on them: apparently roleplaying has really been a good way for me to help worldbuild and get inspired, even if it has been a distraction that kept me from PRODUCING anything in drawings or writing..playing out my characters and sometimes in what I had of my world helped me sort more ideas out and fill in lots of previously missing pieces, so it's gotten me to a better place to be ABLE to start sharing with drawings and etc, and unfortunately I don't have ANY of it up online yet, so in order to make it make sense let alone tie it in to this context, I have to drop a whole lot of verbiage.

Whoa this sounds like it could be tragic but it's a great plot bunny!

You always blow me away with how well you draw Rover's hand. And his expression here is pricelessly perfect.

Yeah.  If I were ever to write it it would be pretty intense.

Heh, thanks.  I designed it to be fairly easy to draw.  You basically draw an arm the way you would normally and then just block out the shapes, with circles at his knuckles and a gear at his elbow.

Thanks...He's pretty distressed, here.

He's an alien in the middle of the Wild West, chances are they'll have no explanation for what he is and won't hesitate to think he's the devil or something. Plus, the law system in that time wasn't as humane, so he could be executed more easily.

The old west is like the LAST place you want to be an unarmed alien.  People were skittish and trigger happy.  And yes, there are certainly some folks that think he is from the Devil.

I gotta finish Outlawed first.  Which I nearly have chapter 3 finished.

Gee, Rover must have been thrilled to finally meet his own species, even if they are from the 19th century, they're still humans! x3

He was completely beside himself and has the time of his life.  A family found him and brought him into town and he gets on very well with the children who are tickled to hear his stories and actually show an adult around town. Just walking on those boardwalks makes him happy, being able to nod with a 'howdy' and getting one back.  He's even tickled to see an honest-to-goodness horse trough.  The family (imagine Little House on the Prairie type family) thinks he's harmless but slightly insane.   Which, I suppose is pretty close to the truth.

LabelPerginu In reply to chill13 [2014-07-27 23:19:12 +0000 UTC]

Aww, see? This place (and time period) is paradise for him! Everything he's dreamed of and hoped for, he's finally got a taste of it :3
It's a shame for how Flyspur started off on Earth. He's in a zone where if anything that's walking on two legs, but has four arms and 'misshapen' hands and feet, it's not from Earth at all.

chill13 In reply to LabelPerginu [2014-07-27 23:55:47 +0000 UTC]

But it does eventually hit him that even though this is what he expected this isn't what should be there.  He has some factual memories, ones that kind of get ignored do to him basing his human expectations on old westerns, and those facts tell him there should be more technology and there most certainly shouldn't be racial distinction, which he is actually shocked to come across in humans.

People were superstitious, predjudice and trigger happy.  All of those things are against him.  People were afraid of the Native Americans because they were different and they were still HUMAN.   You can only imagine how they would react to something like him.  And the fact that he can talk would honestly make him even scarier.  Not just a strange animal but something 'otherworldly' and even more to be feared.

LabelPerginu In reply to chill13 [2014-07-28 13:19:30 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh. 'Cause that wormhole sent them to the wrong century; there's no sign of anyone else using bionic arms in the Old West :/ Given that he doesn't know how old he is, he's probably forgotten the year he was born, but he obviously wasn't born during the 1880's.

Oh aye. Not everybody was welcomed to society, especially those from a different race, were treated cruelly and were practically banned from anything the "natural" people did. Same goes for women, too. But yeah, when it's coming from another dimension, they're bound to be frightened. But, Flyspur's not the one to harm; he's just as frightened as these people.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chill13 In reply to LabelPerginu [2014-07-28 14:56:25 +0000 UTC]

Exactly.  And he does know that he crashed on Jssfloon in an space vessel and these people don't even have an inkling that space travel is possible.  Yep...he's not quite that old

No, Flyspur wouldn't hurt a fly, he's too polite for that.  And yes, this ordeal scares the living daylights out of him.  It's kind of surreal for him to be chased by humans who, up until then his best friend was the only example of them he had known.  And he had always expected that when Rover found humans there would be some big celebration welcoming Rover home.  This was about the last thing he would ever have expected of earth.

LabelPerginu In reply to chill13 [2014-07-28 19:56:30 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, I know that for sure

Aww, the poor blue guy. I hope he's able to withstand that blow :C Humans, especially when they're gunslingers, happen to be very unreasonable. But all in all, like I said, they're just scared and they don't know how to react towards this alien. But Flyspur's not lookin' for a fight!

chill13 In reply to LabelPerginu [2014-07-28 20:11:30 +0000 UTC]

Flyspur actually understands that much more than Rover does and doesn't hold it against them. And ironically enough, once he actually wakes up he's the one that convinces Rover to forgive them and not the other way around.

Thanks!  I thought it would be interesting to give Rover exactly what he wanted, not just finding humans, but finding what he THINKS humans should be...and realizing that what he already has is more important.

Flyspur is hurt pretty bad, going instantly into a blood sleep, a kind of Jssfloon hybernation.  All of Rover's revevrence and respect for humanity is gone in an instant, he's ashamed to even be part of the race responsible for this.  He flips a particle cannon out of his arm and takes a couple of warning shots to keep the crowd back, all the while disowning the entire planet.
NOT happy.

artsytarts In reply to chill13 [2014-07-28 05:28:27 +0000 UTC]

Wow that took a turn I didn't expect! It's a really good story idea. First, Rover kind of lives his dream come true before it turns into a total nightmare. As you said, it shows him what is really important. This whole thing must heartbreaking for him. And poor Flyspur D: I mean, the 1800s don't have the best medical supply anyway. And he's not even human.

chill13 In reply to artsytarts [2014-07-28 16:13:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's a pretty happy-go-lucky story until that point.
He loves his crew to pieces but he seems to have it in his head that he needs to find humans to somehow be complete, an that's where he 'belongs'.  But, really, he doesn't need it.  He belongs exactly where he is.

He's completely disillusioned.  It's kind of like learning that your favorite celebrity, the one you looked up to since childhood and have all the posters and keychains of, is on drugs.

Well, the local doctor, who has already made friends with Rover, is very helpful and good with a needle.  They also get him into a tub of water, which speeds up healing.

Dark Horse did a non canon story where the millennium Falcon arrives on Earth in the 1600s. Long story shot, Han is killed by Natives, Chewie becomes Sasquatch, and Indiana Jones and Short-round find the Millennium Falcon.

But me, who has no money and no official franchise (as of yet) would never be able to afford the copyright costs.

Planet of the Apes/Star Trek sounds as crazy of an idea as the Tarzan/Predator crossover.

Doesn't stop 'official' crossovers with other artist/writers like Rebel-Rider or AlexVanArsdale and their stories in the future.  No telling what great stories can come out of allowing a what-if, artists 'jam session.'

Thanks.  Unfortunately the wormhole, while intelligent, is simply a gateway from one place to another.  It can't move things on it's own.

And the crew on the ship is working on fixing that ancient teleport machine which fritzed out as soon as it sent Rover and Flyspur through.

The galaxy is pretty open, here.  There is no massive Federation gluing things together and policing matters.  Although, there are large hunks of space ruled by certain races.  There are, large 'sectors' that use the same currency and fratternize.  It's a lot more free than other 'universes', with more town-like areas of space rather than country like spaces.  Although there are a few of them out there.

However,.....this particular matter is in flux in my head so it is suject to change.

Rebel-Rider In reply to chill13 [2014-07-28 02:57:46 +0000 UTC]

My galaxy is pretty small and only one sector, "The Company" is big into space travel. There's been a war and such, which is how most of the space pirates got in business. Also, a few other planets are independent but most of them have very little space travel yet. Earth is one of the independent ones, sort of. There was a war there too. (I plan to write a book involving an alien invasion that starts with humans invading aliens and then the aliens overreacting and deciding they'll show Earth what thy think of being invaded.)
My aliens actually did end up getting their hands on the Bible quite a while ago so Christianity, or various forms, have spread quite a ways. (I've been working on coming up with a few separate denominations.)
