One of my new favorite comics is Ago Comics on instagram. It's about all number of prehistoric creatures. He recently added a pic for the 'draw this in your style' challenge. The picture was so hilarious I couldn't resist.....and it was dinosaurs...so yeah. If memory serves, I think some species of birds provide 'cleaning service' for large African animals: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxpecker
So it wouldn't be much of a stretch to think that proto-avian might have a similar behavior.
