Where is the prayer
For those who stand on the shores
who look out the doors
to watch the ship sail over the horizon once more
not know if it shall return

We have the prayer for soldier
the sailor
the Captain and crew
for the ship and the sea
but where is the prayer for those who are left behind

Where is the prayer
For those who cry into the night
That death has touched but their souls did not take
Where is the prayer for those who stand in its wake

Where is the prayer
For the sons and the daughters
For the friends and the foes
Where is the prayer for those who are left behind

We have the prayer for the soul
For sins to forgive and
Blessing to have
Where is the prayer for those who are left behind

We all hear the words
Hollow and cold
Of those who do not know
They take your hand then leave and stand
Never to fully know

So can you tell me
Is there a prayer for those who are left behind
Beyond those hollow words
On every ones tongue

Here I stand the paper in hand
Asking the question again and again
Standing here in the snow
Writing the prayer for those who are left behind.
