My entry for the contest. I initially did not want to submit this, but whatevs, figured I'd try. So my concept here is that the entirety of the scene takes place in the mind, that's why all these different places can exist close to and far from each other at the same time. At the center is the Road. Your imagination, the birthplace of all ideas. I tried to show that all the stuff there emanates from that pillar. I designed it to look like some kind of crystalline nerve cluster techno-organic... thing. Anyway just like everything else, negativity is also a child of your imagination, and it's always a battle between which side you will allow to dominate at any particular moment.
The clockwork tech knight originally was going to be human-sized, peering out of a cockpit. But I later turned him into a giant by abandoning the console and windshield idea and added a dude on his shoulder to make him huge instead.
