Description
It had started out as any other day would.Chakavu had been spending the day with his family, mostly his grandchildren, telling stories about the days of old. No one had informed him of this impending war, the siblings agreeing that it best spare their father of the strife until the war was on their doorstep. And so, with his paws around his granddaughter Sanura, Chakavu let out a laugh as someone said she couldn't fit there anymore. "My granddaughter can sit wherever she pleases!" He then turned and quipped to Aboki, "Besides, until you give me grandchildren, these are my youngest." A stick of a tongue and face from both father and son, no one ever could have guessed that anything was wrong in the world. It was just a normal day for the Chahi family, and everyone spent time together today. Even Laini and Chuivu had laughed as if they were but cubs again.
And then, the day drew to a close.
The sun was setting, and Chakavu was on his way out to his favorite clearing to watch the sunset. Years ago there was a patch of the jungle that caught ablaze, and the trees had yet to grow back, leaving a perfect spot in the treeline for a picturesque view of the sunset. As Chakavu walked, he found his mate and asked her to join him. If there was something he loved more than sunsets and more than his children, it was Mahi. "Join me, babe?" How many years had they spent with one another? How many years had he called her his? And they were perfect for one another, Chakavu couldn't remember a single major fight being held between the two. Sure there were some arguments, especially over his insistence on wanting to name their sons all Chakavu, but never a fight.
They were perfect for one another.
The breeze was beautiful, the jungle was at peace, and the sun was setting low in the sky. Chakavu and Mahi were curled up with one another, and -as always- Chakavu struggled to keep his eyes open. He was old, he couldn't deny it, but most old farts slept at an early hour. Instead, Chakavu stayed up for most of the day just to see the sunsets. And this one? Was the most beautiful of all. As the sky was draped in a deep purple, Chakavu looked once more to his mate. "Mahi?" The lioness looked back at her mate, a simple 'hm' from her mouth. "Have I ever told you I loved you?" Mahi chuckled and rolled her eyes, batting her mate playfully on the nose. 'Only every hour of every day, fluffbutt.' The two smiled and laughed again, nuzzling each other close. Chakavu's embraced tightened, although he did not know what compelled him to do so.
Perhaps he was tired.
As the breeze blew over his pelt, Chakavu began to think about his life. He always regretted not giving Mahi more children, for he knew that the mother inside of her thrived when around the young ones. Seeing her with their grandchildren, it brought joy to his heart. He hoped Aboki and Tamu would have their first litter soon - a bunch of girls that looked just like Mahi, that was his dream. He knew that Jabka and Imvula had been keeping hushed about a second litter, and Chakavu knew that it was possible they'd have another litter once their first one was grown. He knew Jabka was like his mother, thrived around children. Maybe Chaka and Choma would settle down soon, even though they were young.
Great-grandchildren? Now that really made him feel old.
As the two lions sat there in the clearing, the setting sun slowly vanishing beyond the horizon, Chakavu snuggled into Mahi's fur as best that he could. Mahi chuckled and started to hum a lullaby, just as she would for the cubs when they were little. A smile on his face, Chakavu's eyes blinked slowly as he was lulled to sleep by his mate and the cool breeze on his pelt and through his mane. As he fell asleep, Chakavu found himself dreaming. He was in the jungles, just as they were, but a noise made him turn around. Standing there was a lioness, fully grown, with eyes bright like his own and a white tail just like Mahi. Tears formed in his eyes, and the smile on his face grew ten times in that moment. Yes, this was bliss and he felt at home.It would be alright. They would be alright. The lioness before him was excited, and a smile grew on her face as well. She opened her mouth to speak, and the word that came through his ear, well... He finally let go.
'Papa!'
This is it... Chakavu had a good run, and it breaks my heart to see him go like this. I tried for years and different RP groups to get him the story he deserved, and finally - finallyΒ - he got it. He went out doing what he loved most, watching the sunset with his favorite lion in the entire world. Chakavu is survived by his mate, Mahi, his four children, and his five grandchildren.
I love you, fluffbutt. Thank you.
