Description
This is my first time painting digitally from life.I wasn't looking at a picture. I was looking right next to my monitor at an empty Diet Coke can on my desk. I haven't done a still life since school. Which was over a year ago. I used to HATE still lives, but it REALLY felt good to paint from observation again. I really really miss it. It's so different than using photographs. This was SUCH a breath of fresh air for me.
I really like how it turned out, I think I'm going to start doing more digital paintings from observation.
BTW I didn't use the smudge tool once! I'M SO PROUD OF MYSELF! It's all on one layer using the basic brushes that came with Photoshop.
Around 4 hours from start to finish. So I guess it's a "speed painting"?
Everything painted by me, Chip Whitehouse, in Photoshop CS4 using a Wacom Graphics Tablet.
PS: Painting that colored pencil drove me INSANE! I think I'm going to break it and throw it out the window now.

the complementing colors of the jade green and red work really well, it appears an under painting was done which is great thing to do. one thing i see would be to try and make the lines more impacting, make them more worth it, if your lines are straight all the time and your curves are symmetrical it will make your work go by a lot faster, and come out better. the opening of the coke where the drink comes out is slightly loopy looking. but the shine is amazing, the colors are very together and the perspective is very good.

LOL! It's actually an iPod laying on my desk Its one of the old black video iPods with a plastic cover over it. So the circle part is where the buttons are.
