This is my first time painting digitally from life.

I wasn't looking at a picture. I was looking right next to my monitor at an empty Diet Coke can on my desk. I haven't done a still life since school. Which was over a year ago. I used to HATE still lives, but it REALLY felt good to paint from observation again. I really really miss it. It's so different than using photographs. This was SUCH a breath of fresh air for me.

I really like how it turned out, I think I'm going to start doing more digital paintings from observation.

BTW I didn't use the smudge tool once! I'M SO PROUD OF MYSELF! It's all on one layer using the basic brushes that came with Photoshop.

Around 4 hours from start to finish. So I guess it's a "speed painting"?

Everything painted by me, Chip Whitehouse, in Photoshop CS4 using a Wacom Graphics Tablet.

PS: Painting that colored pencil drove me INSANE! I think I'm going to break it and throw it out the window now.
