I love Steven Universe and I love all the gems. I simply had to draw Malachite and I am pretty happy with how this came out, I hope you guys like it too! Now let me ramble in a paragraph or so about SU and Malachite.
I see a lot of stuff about Lapis and Jasper, about how toxic their relationship and fusion is. I see a lot about them, which is great, I love the characters. However, I don’t see a lot about Malachite. Fusions are their own being, their own person, the best example of that being Garnet. Opal, Sugillate, and Sardonyx are clearly their own beings created by the amalgam of others as well. We see their personalities even if their apperance in an episode is brief. With Malachite it’s different. Malachite is hardly able to exist. She is unstable. I see things all the time about the struggle between Lapis and Jasper but what about Malachites struggle? Lapis is trying to hold her together just to keep Jasper trapped, and Jasper wants so desperately to unfuse. What does Malachite want though? She must feel the struggle, does it hurt her? Does it hurt her to know she exists as a prison? Due to the fight within her does she even want to continue existing? She must be truly bitter. Could she hold disdain for the two halves that create her? And consequently hate herself?
I love Lapis, and I love Jasper, but I definitely think it would be interesting to delve into Malachite more and learn more about her as a fusion. Who is Malachite?
