Description Last--but certainly not least--Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

We started this whole thing strong, and we're ending it strong. I love ATLA, as I'm sure many of you do, and there isn't much that I could say that hasn't been already said. The idea of using martial arts as a way of controlling the elements is so original and inspired! I watched a special feature on ATLA when I was little and it was first airing on Nickolodeon, and I remember how surprised and impressed I was to find out that the fancy-shmancy moves the characters in the show used were based in a real-life sport. It was such an awesome idea! And when you couple that idea with a fully fleshed-out plot and strong, likable characters you have a recipe for success!

Zuko is so cool, and the arc he undergoes throughout the series is one of the best I've seen in any media. We are so invested in him and his development despite the fact that he starts out as an antagonist and doesn't join the protagonists until almost the end of the last season. When I finished watching ATLA, it became my goal to get to a point where I have the skill to pull of stories and character arcs equal to those in ATLA--I've got a ways to go, but the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step!

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!

I FINISHED THE A-Z CHALLENGE! AND NOT AT THE VERY LAST MINUTE EITHER, I STILL HAD TWO MORE WEEKS LEFT!!!!

I keep wanting to go back and try to develop a digital painting style. I had stopped trying to do it a couple of pieces ago because my methods were taking too long and I had other art and life priorities to sort out. So what I did to try and come to a middle ground was this: I filled the character in a mid-tone gray, and then I rendered the shadows and lighting in their own layers separated by their values. Then when I finished the shading, all I had to do was flat Zuko and tweak the color of the shadows and highlights so that it meshed together better and BAM! A rendered painting that took less time and effort overall but still looks polished like I spent 20+ hours on it.

I'm probably going to do a reflection journal or a compilation piece or something later, but not right now.

Right now, I'm going to take a nap.
