Description
Man, shipping Isis and Yami together is basically signing up for misery and despair. You can feel the potential for a nice and sweet relationship between the two. The thing is... everything surrounding them wouldn't allow it? Whether it is Yami being a ghost-pharaoh who lives vicariously through a little boy and Isis, a member of the clan that has vowed to protect his tombs and to suffer for it.So tragic... ; n ; But at the same time... isn't that which makes it so fascinating?Β
A good thing pharaoh Atem x priestess Aisis is a much more feasible option, though.Β

There's an interesting element to this pair, I think. While Isis tends to use her Tauk in a linear timeline format, Yami's Puzzle allows him to bend fate, as it were, subtly by altering the outcomes of his draws.

Yup! Both are so different in this respect, and this also why I love their pairing so much. They have so much to learn from each other. Why did Takahashi have Isis spend 90% of her time with Kaiba? Now I'm not denying the appeal of trustshipping, but she could have also have a little talk with the pharaoh too?
Haha, enough with my ranting. x) Β

One theory I heard is that Isis is testing Yami, and therefore holds back on giving him too much information. She might Β even have a tiny bit of resentment for him for what her family was put through because of him. In a way, I think she understands Kaiba a bit more, as both are older siblings who are essentially on their own in the realm of business.

If memory serves, someone in canon (maybe Isis herself?) mentioned something about the Pharaoh having to fight on his own in order to regain his memories, so I guess that she just disclosing things to him would pretty much defeat the purpose, indeed. Now, what I don't understand is why Yami himself didn't come after her. I mean, she just randomly appears behind him and drops hints of his past and he just basically, rolls with that? in his place, I know I would have grilled her for more informations. Β
The resentment on her part is quite a plausible theory, though in my opinion, whatever bitterness she might have felt has probably dwindled, by Battle City's end and Malik's redemption. After that, she seems a lot more chill around Yami, smiling more often, acting warmer toward him - out of relief, satisfaction at being finally reunited with her family, and as I like to think, maybe also a lil bit of gratitude toward him, for having helped in saving her brother.
That said, I wholeheartedly agree Yami making a huge apology to the Ishtar (and the whole clan) would be the least he could do, after everything they went through because of him. And then try to amend things as much as possible before leaving - so many issues were left unresolved in the end!Β

I think that was her, actually. My guess is that he probably wanted to find things out on his own, and appreciated the challenge, but something about this seems off. Before the conclusion of Isis's duel with Seto Kaiba, she seems much more mysterious, and is more a neutral party in the story. She seemed to be playing both Kaiba and Yami for her own agenda. Somehow, I see her reaction to Yami upon first meeting him as this (to quote The Princess and the Hound): "You're not what I expected." After losing to Kaiba, however, she aligns herself more closely with Yugi and his friends. In retrospect, I wish I had gone into this more in Slifer (I later changed the title to Sky Dragon of Osiris).Β
Agreed completely. At first, however, before Battle City started, she is quite cool toward him (and toward Kaiba, for that matter, though they seem to be verbally sparring, more than much else). On the other hand, however, I can think of a couple of reasons why Isis wasn't more active toward assisting Yami. Most principally is plot. She would have given away too much too early about the truth of her brother's past, and (I'm going on the sub here) it would have stripped out the entire point of the Battle City arc, that being that Malik is trying to kill Yami for something that wasn't his fault. Second, being the curator of an exhibit, she would have her hands full with it.Β
On the other hand, I think potential was missed by not having Isis feature as prominently during that arc. Here are a few examples I can think of, off the top of my head:
a) Conversations between her and Rishid, which would have developed Rishid more, and would also mark a contrast for where their thought processes involving Malik have parted ways
b) We would've seen how she had actually won her locator cards
c) It would be interesting to see Isis playing more of her own side, and how that would affect the other characters
I think they might have been resolved off-screen. One of my common criticisms of this series, despite my liking it very much, is that the story focuses too much upon the duels, as opposed to the characters (in the dub, this is even more so).Β

"He isn't what she expected" ?
What in your opinion was Isis expecting upon meeting Yami?
Indeed. I can imagine too many things were at stake for Isis to just reveal what she knows to the Pharaoh. At the very least, she got to do that after her duel with Kaiba - not to mention the scene on the blimp in which she begs Yami to save Malik! I loved so much that scene. This, along with the one in the museum with Kaiba, really shows how knowledgeable Isis is in handling people and convincing them to do stuff. The nuances are very telling; I love how, in the blimp with Kaiba, she remained logical all while appealing to his sense of family, enough to convince him to help the Pharaoh in his duel against Yami no Malik! With Yami, however, she seems to appeal more to his sense of compassion and responsability and I don't know, it's just fascinating to see how she started out playing the both of them only to end up feeling (seemingly) grateful for what the two did for her. Now you say it, I love how for both men, Isis had some kind of a guiding role for them, and for both, she's challenged them in a way she knew they would react positively to. Even if it was to manipulate Kaiba and Yami, this makes many interesting differences and similarities in the trustshipping and avishipping's dynamics. and this is when I'm starting to think of an ot3 between the three but ahem I digress-
So true!
I totally agree Isis ought to have more development and more screentime! It would have been so interesting to see what kind of relationship she has with Rishid or how she accessed to the locator cards indeed! though I imagine she probably used her tauk in order to win? But at the same time, she mentions during her duel with Kaiba, something about the tauk being not supposed to be used for dueling. So maybe she didn't use it in the end. Judging by her clever tactics in the anime/manga, and the way she keeps kicking my ass in Duel Links, she's definitely got the skills to win her way through Battle City - sennen tauk or not !
I can barely imagine her collaborator's face upon discovering the most respected museum's curator/secretary of the Egyptian supreme Council of Antiquities would participate in a children's card game.

Considering that pharaohs tend to be looked to as gods, in a way I think her mental picture of him had more presence, as opposed to a confused teen wandering around a museum.
I also find it interesting how Isis is probably the only woman to bring Kaiba to his knees. Granted, it was with the assistance of the Sennen Tauk. I can't help but feel that their duel is a bookend of that. It also would be interesting for him to communicate with her about the progress of the tournament during Battle City, and that was, actually, my original impression of how their relationship would be, with him acting as a sort of mercenary. Considering that Isis and Malik have been against each other for years, it is understandable that she would have to be careful in shifting her diplomatic style, depending on who she is speaking to.Β
For some reason, in the game Yu-Gi-Oh: Forbidden Memories, the vast majority of the monsters in her deck are marine-themed, and occasionally a Meteor B. Dragon. I think if she just used her Tauk for every duel, it would be too much of a crutch for her. Come to think of it, it would be interesting to go into how a Sennen Item user, such as herself or Pegasus, is affected after losing an item.
And knowing Isis, she would flawlessly find a way around it.

Atem is dead, and Ishizu is alive, not only that Atem would feel guilty because of how her father abused her and her siblings as tomb keepers to protect the items for when he returns. He would probably blame himself thinking that he might have condemned their family 3000 years ago to live underground as pharaoh if he did.

Yup. A full-blown romance would be awkward. But forlorn glances, regretful gazes and platonic relationships based on mutual respect and devotion? hell yes!
