This image, shows both beauty and betrayal, in a common occurrence. Many poor people experience this tragic event, of how a close 'friend' or lover may promise you the world, then snatch it all away from you just as soon as they promised it. The colours on the rat demon like creature towering over the latter are mostly cool colours, somewhat a reference to the cold nature this thing truly represents deep within itself. The many white and black lining, or more so known as lighting and/or shading, helps bring out the fur well; I enjoy the use of cross-hatching in several noticeable places in the image, it really takes the shading a step further.
I must admit, at first I imagined this image to be a tear-jerking reunion, then I noticed the sly dog's fingers crossed behind his back. Even so, this is still a very moving piece, regardless of the betrayal it so neatly hides. Very well done.
