Description
A gift for CouffeNoirI modelled his awesome character toyhou.se/4697344.02-buttsnack…
I wanted to see how long modelling a character would take, because I want to take commissions for these eventually. I wanted to be done in a week, but it took half a month? I guess it's good I decided to test it before actually taking commissions.
Now onto the obligatory rambles!
I think the most interesting part of this project was the simple style. I went with sculpted fur and hair, instead of particle hair. I used very simple shading with as few reflecions as possible and very few details. The water doesn't look realistic either as you can probably tell. I was excited to try out a simpler style, because eventually I want to create a short animation. I was thinking a simple style might suit it nicely. But honestly after finishing this character I'm quite sure I'm going to at least go with particle hair and fur for my animation. Unless I discover it's even more difficult to work with.. But I really hope it's not: retopology for this character took nearly a week. (And I planned that it would take 1 day xD)
Because of this project, I also tried setting up a water simulation for the first time. And after the first time, I did like 100 more to get the perfect look. After the achiving the "perfect" look I decided it's not perfect enough and I started sculpting the waves by hand. In the end, I am happy with the water, but I really think I should be able to settle for worse results and move on to the next thing.
Another thing that was a first for me was making clouds. I've never played with any volumetrics before. In the end the experience was way less pleasant that with the water. They took long to render, were hard to work with and I thought my computer was going to explode when previewing the results. I really have to learn to use them better or figure out something else for future projects. Speaking of figuring something else, for the mist I decided to try out CG geek's method ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lvx3N…) for mist and I used planes with a mist texture. This method worked much better and I think im going to use it in the future.
I also learned what 3 of the options in the principled bsdf shader do, clearcoat, specular and sheen. I actually ended up playing with them a lot to acive the stylised shading. So yeah, I think that's all I wanted to talk about? I'm going to render a couple more pictures of this guy and post them sometime soon.
Thanks for looking!

Uhuuuu

Gosh I love everything about it (like i already said in notes) <3 I think with this simple style you can create animations that seem like they are from games!
When you take these as comms and take animations as comms, oh boi imma shower you with money cuz I will be getting a bunch <3
I love everything you did with this! I love all the methods you tried and I think everything fits great!
gosh I am so thankful for this ;; I don't know how to fully thank you for this?? like ;; gosh imma cry
