Oh no, I'm not russian(although I speak some russian since I live 15 miles away from the border)- I'm finnish. You know, a small scandinavian/north european country. Finland is the only European state still using the conscription system- every male over 18 goes to the army or civil service. It can be chosen which one, but usually everyone goes to the army, because it's so embarrasing to go to the civil service.
The branch... I'd say it's the land defence forces armoured division... I don't know how to correctly say it in english, but something like that. The armoured core-

Yeah, it sounds cool alright... but when you're sitting on top of a big hill without any protection against wind and it's -25 celsius, and the only thing going through your mind is which way should you stand to the campfire to stay warm- it really strikes you that is actually isn't cool at all. Most of the time.
Another language? Of course I know others too- I know russian, german, swedish, finnish(native) and english. I go to an international training in the uni, so I'm best with english since I get all my education with it.

Ew...coldness. Not fun! AND I'M SO JEALOUS OF YOU AN YOUR SKILLS! America doesn't MAKE anyone learn other stuff. Because we think we're too good for it or something. Like I say I really want to learn like German and Italian, but then I always get too preoccupied. But I want to travel soooo bad. Europe is like my dream vacation. Just everywhere there seems awesome. Too bad money doesn't grow from trees, eh?

Well, maybe it's because since most people around there think that people can speak english everywhere, so it would be a waste of time to learn other languages. And about the education- In Finland there are two official languages, finnish and swedish that everyone has to learn, and english, which is started even sooner than swedish. So pretty much everyone around here speaks at least two languages. I just got the extras that were offered at my school. Of course I could have taken spanish and french too, but I didn't have time for those. I like german better-
Funny you should mention travelling to Europe! Just this August I was interrailing through Europe, three weeks from Berlin in Germany to Lisbon in Portugal. Went through Germany, Belgium, Holland, France(pretty), Spain(nudist beaches in Barcelona!) and finally to Portugal. That was pretty tiring...
You shouldn't worry about money, I didn't have toom uch either! I just went there without any bigger reservations, just trying to find a cheap place. Next place where I'd want to go is Japan...

Traveling is like my greatest excitement! I seriously would see the world in a heart beat if I can get the chance. And my parents want to send me to Italy at the end of this year (my senior year). I REALLY want to go. So who knows, I might be seeing a part of Europe in the near future
