This is how MMD Model Request work,
Someone post a picture of the character they want to have modeled and then someone makes it into a model for them (hopefully) 9/10 times you are going to find art that they didn't make themselves for this because 9/10 times it't not going to be an OC and even if it is, chances are they used a character gen to make the ref picture.

That doesn't mean you should post it on dA though. You could just note the person you want to request with the original source of the picture. :l

but this is often easier in most cases. (despite it being an extra step or two)
They get rid of the pictures once the request is filled so I don't see the issue.
(They even state it's not theirs and if they don't they won't claim it if you ask or let it be known that it's not theirs)

Sorry, I was just stating my opinion. I still don't understand why people would do it this way, but I've just seen far too many cases of people using artwork that doesn't belong to them to gain popularity, even when giving credit (no one ever reads descriptions anyway). I simply thought it was unfair.

I've personally seen Re-colors called OC's become popular as well.
I have my own reasons for hating Recolors, Traces, and Recolors...
but from what I can tell 9/10 people in the MMDC don't try to do that
Being a modeler myself, I kinda have to trust them to be able to freely distribute as many original Models/Stages/Objects as I do and say that they can Edit and Redistribute my stuff I make as much as the wish, on the one condition that I get credit for making the original mesh. (and they don't use them for commercial use when I choose not to make money off anything I do for MMD)

Credit should be given no matter what. :c I'm not in the MMD fandom (I'd love to be, though, as I am in the UTAU fandom and am rather interested in MMD) so I'm sorry that I don't know a lot, haha. x-x

Sometimes you have people who only belong to one but most times you have that 2nd to last option.

I'm UTAU/VOCALOID user only, but I'd love to try modeling/editing, as I'd like to be making models for my UTAUs, but I've never succeeded in doing so. x-x

you can easily learn modeling in like 3-5 months (depending on how much you work at it) the issue is learning how to model and being good at it are two completely different things.
My first good model took me 9 months and now that it's been almost 4 years I'm decent at it.
Editing is really easy, but the issue is you have to deal with physics that people don't clean up >_<
Either way you have to deal with Rigging, Physics and Facials (Rigging and Facials are rare on edits though)

Wow. xD I have done some 3D modeling in Autodesk Maya before, but I really have no clue how to deal with rigging and physics. x-x Do you have any basic tutorials you could recommend? xD //sorry if I'm asking too much of you

I am actually going to make some Tutorials here in the next few weeks.
As far as what tutorials I would recommend, I learned from Chatterhead's Anime Head tutorial, Karen...3349?'s Rigging tutorial, and a bunch of random Tutorials I found that should have actually taught me Blender instead xD
