Which Zelda game is your favourite?

couldn't say actually, i love them all for different reasons, however a link to the past happens to be my least favorite, i still like it, it's just my least favorite.

Hmm, interesting; I'm the opposite, I consider that my favourite tied with Ocarina. Primarily because I think it's the one to which the rest of the series owes its existence.

All that said, I'd say Majora's Mask would have one of the best range of characterisation, and Wind Waker is best in terms of exploration.

the thing about wind waker for me is that i wish most of the islands were a lot bigger, sort of like windfall. While the great sea is huge it can feel a bit empty at times.Β

janus-006 In reply to ChompWorks [2015-05-31 11:54:01 +0000 UTC]
I think that's kind of the point, but the issue was that sea travel was a bit slow due to loading. Anyway, the islands are supposed to be mountain tops of the flooded Hyrule.
Is there one you'd pick out as a favourite? Or any favourite dungeons or items?

Cool. My favourite dungeons are the Spirit Temple, Wind Temple and Lanayru Mining Facility.

i loved the time crystals and orbs, especially when you sailed on a sea of sand by turning the sand around you into water, that was incredibly creative.

Indeed, the cross between past and present has appeared in a few Zelda games before. In fact, there is a real-life process called desertification, which is what happened to the once-green Lanayru region. The music for the Sand Sea is beautiful - it has a wonderfully melancholy feel, as if lamenting the demise of the land. It actually suits Australia's bleak, harsh summers quite well.

i didn't get that vibe, at least toward the end. In the first area yeah after learning it was lush and water filled it did look rather depressing, but in the second area after meeting the robots and their facility it felt a lot "homier" and when you get to the sand sea it feels very magical to me.

That's the cool thing, everyone has their own interpretation. I like how we see the same game so differently.

skyward word had a world that felt a lot more "whimsical" than most other zelda games which i why i would have liked to see more than just three area, even if they did expand upon them.

janus-006 In reply to ChompWorks [2015-05-31 13:03:30 +0000 UTC]
The idea with that game was an overworld with more to do in each area, as opposed to larger but less engaging overworlds as in previous games. I'm not sure if it worked as well, but trying new things is fun.

it just needed like one or two more areas, zelda wii u on the othe rhand, seems like it's going to be pretty interesting.

I think the sort of free-world exploration of the original Legend of Zelda was an inspiration for them there.

they said so themselves in their reveal of it, which i'm looking forward to getting lost in. (no really i'm very exited) though i guess they underestimated how big they made the world and they now have to spend a long time filling it with stuff lol.

They wound up rushing Wind Waker a little, which has been a notable regret on the staff's part. They wanted to do more with it. Why they didn't stick that into the HD version is beyond me.

yeah like how link was supposed to actually age and other such things. I guess they didn't because it would become sort of a different game and they didn't account for that in their time and such.Β

windwaker was very influential in the long run, i wonder how it would have changed things if it had been at "100%"

janus-006 In reply to ChompWorks [2015-06-01 04:31:14 +0000 UTC]
Indeed. It stirred up a lot of controversy, just because of the graphics style, even before it was released. People assumed it would be easy due to the fact it had those cel-shaded graphics.

There's something people call the Zelda Cycle. The most recent game sucks, the one before that is vindicated, the one two games before that is the best game ever and the rest before that are overrated.

Yeah, that would not be good. You can do variations on a theme, but those variations should be the focus. After all, Mario Sunshine is Mario 64 on holiday, and Mario Galaxy is Mario 64 in space, but they worked because they did things differently.
