it is the 30th hour, i finally finished all the base layer on her head. I guess this is a good step to record as WIP because you guys can see the difference between her left and right face. Most of the time is spent creating realistic skin texture on her face.
haven't think of a proper name for it. any idea?

This is amazing! what pencils have you used and did you build up the freckles in value slowly? How did you do them?

hi there. I use steadler pencils. (the blue color one) and derwent graphite pencil (2H~8B). yes i start everything with 2H and HB, for darker part i will then layer 4B and 8B on it.
yes i do it slowly, because I think for realistic drawings, the brightness and contrast are very important.

do you use circulism technique?

hmmm, it is not easy to say Yes or No for this.
I do believe that technique works on small sized portraits but not this piece.
that blending technique is good to bring out the texture of paper used, not the real texture of the object.
i dont use pencil in circular motion, but i sometimes blend in circular motion.

so what shading method do you tend to utilise? I use the tapered stroke, ala Darrel Tank "the 5 pencil method", have you looked into his tutorials at all?

Darrel Tank is true master, it is his video that let me know about electric eraser.
for his tutorials,i watch some, but not all.
ok in my opinion, shading is done by pencil and blending tools.
i have a lot of pencils, some are kept sharp, some blunt. it is all about texture.
blending, for me it is to adjust the contrast of the pencil mark.
i use painting brush, paper stumps, finger, cotton and tissue paper for blending.

He is very nice also, and a great teacher. So how long have you been drawing realism? Are you self taught? You clearly have looked into many educational materials.

Hi this is a good question. This is just those normal drawing paper... I choose the extra white and smooth one... It is smoother than cartridge paper and watercolor paper, but not as smooth as Bristol...
This is 165 gsm

this personally reminds me of a spotted lily, or a sunflower. try a ray of sun, her own summer days, something someplace new, gardener. gilly the gardner, somethinglike that.

use gum eraser and shape it to a tip, then you can erase precisely to make the eyes more sparkly.
very nice rendering of skin.
awesome work

thanks for the suggestion. But i m afraid that gum eraser is not enough to do highlight from a 8B pencil layer.
you have to mix it with some blu tag or sticky things to stick the graphite powders out.
basically an electric eraser or pencil eraser or white ink pen would create very precised highlight than the gum eraser
these are my experience and thanks again
