Description
Class: ReptiliaOrder: Drocordilea
Genus: Sprinter
Sprinters are part of the fearsome Reptilia Warrior caste, the teeth and claws of the Droc military.
Sprinters have bone-crushing jaws, thick scaly hide, bony back plates, and a muscular tail.
A Sprinter is capable of running up to 50 miles per hour over a short distance. They can also walk on their hind legs.
This image has a little rendering left to go, but let me know what you think so far. I will also be doing an alternate version of the Sprinter wearing it's full armor and gear.

Thanks! I appreciate it
The program I used was Photoshop, just used the brush tool and played with some of the settings like texture, scatter, and hue.
But honestly, the program you use isn't nearly as important as just having a strong foundation in drawing anatomy, lighting, color value, and lots of practice. If you look up painting and drawing tutorials on youtube, there are a lot of helpful videos out there you can watch.

Oh on my Droc site? I wanted people to come back on a regular basis to read the blog I added, and I thought it might get obnoxious after a while, or at least it did for me working on the site, too loud.
I want to do a book trailer, or promo video for the story at some point, maybe I'll use it again for that.
Meanwhile, the clip was from Mein Teil by Rammstein if you want to look it up and hear it again.

By vintage do you mean like a vintage record or comic book? Or is vintage also a Deviant Art term? Either way I'm afraid I don't know.

is it somehow related to the crocodiles on earth?
Hate to come across with something like that.

Hey no problem, it's a fair question.
The design is definitely influenced by crocodiles, but story wise they don't share any connection to earth's reptiles. Which is the case with most of the superhuman Alpha species in my story, they are based off of actual earthly predator.
Friends have brought this up to me before, asking why would something evolve on a another planet to look so much like a wolf or a crocodile. And they're right, most likely, even if it was an earth-like planet, the creatures inhabiting it would probably look very different.
It's basically a stylistic choice. Similar to how Hollywood still makes their aliens very humanoid, even though they have computer animation and are no longer limited to a man in suit.
For me it's a way of easily distinguishing the Alpha species from the other odd-looking, but non-superhuman Beta races. It's also partly thematic, by depicting recognizable earth creatures taking revenge on the destructive corporations ruining their worlds, it adds to the environmental message of my story.
And partly it's just a lot fun drawing my favorite animals anthropomorphized and using laser guns and martial arts in this crazy science fiction setting
Sorry for the lengthy reply, not trying to single you out for asking, just thought I would go more in depth for anyone who is curious.

No worries, it helps a lot. I prefer making humanoids that could be related to humans or more completely less human like few studios do than star trek.

Wonderful creature! I like this style of creature design! But somehow I feel that that upper toe on his back legs is a bit awkward. It might just be me though.

Thanks for commenting.
I added the upper toe to inject a little dinosaur DNA into the design. But it's not a critical part of the creature's look, so I'll save out a version without the toe and think it over.
