I am amazed. I started writing a sci-fi short story about androids serving prison time on another planet. And my planet looks like this one. I have never tried to imagine it, actually, but the moment I saw this valley, I recognized the desolate spirit I see in it.
Now, I am using the ideas I had for the short story in a novel. I am writing it at the moment, with NaNoWriMo. So, whatever I write must be over (more or less) in December.
So, in brief, I just wanted to tell you how much this image moved me.

well not all of it, usually i do have ideas in my head before i start painting anything, but those planned paintings also take longer to finish because i simply try to make them as close as possible to the image that i had in my mind. While my random stuff is usually speedpainted just because i can improvise a lot more and dont need care about the initial concept.

I'm not a premium user, but here's a partial critique. The weakness to me seems to be the sense of depth between the midground (where the man is standing) and the .. firmament. I can't tell whether it's the sky and a cold, distant sun that looks oddly close, or whether it's a cavern ceiling that doesn't quite look integrated with the stalagmites (and.. should there be stalactites where there are stalagmites?).
It seems to me that we're viewing from within an interesting area looking at a less-interesting one; the figure is already within the crystal-field; as we can't see his emotion, it looks as if he's feeling safe and standing in a familiar place ("Now where did I bury my box of marbles?")
Anyways, it's very cool!

Okay, i can't critique, but a critique is a "thoughtful, in depth responses to the work," right? So here's mine:
This piece opens a window to a world somehow more exciting than the present one, yet it is obvious that the one you've created is just as complex and varied. The crystals glowing in the darkness and the subtle smoke rising from the gound add to the mystery of it all. The spire-like structures rising from the ground keep the motion together well. One of the most fascinating things, though, is that there is a PERSON in the mix, making it altogether more realistic. I love the colors; they set a unique mood. I wish there was a book to go along with this piece (and just about all the other stuff in your gallery
