Description
Wassup Peoples!Sorry this has taken a couple days to get out. Tuesday was our first day home from the hospital and we're all just trying to regroup. So...here's the story.
Last Thursday, Sept. 13th we went in for her 41 week check up. We brought everything with us just in case our midwife decided it was the day. Well, to our joy, it was. Shannon's blood pressure was high and they were concerned she might have preclampsia, which is a name they give to a multitude of symptoms that can be dangerous to the mom, not necessarily the baby and the only cure is to deliver the baby. They were going to test her for it, but since she was already overdue, they decided they wanted to induce her.
So, Shannon and I went to grab lunch then walked over to the hospital. At this time Shannon wasn’t dilated at all and was not effaced either...not a good sign. So, once we got checked in, she was induced. They had to give her an internal inducing device to get her to start dilating as well as pitocin. She had to lie in bed for 6 hours for it to start working. Her mom and my mom came down to join us for the long labor that we had just begun. After six hours she could get up, walk around; sit on a yoga ball as her contractions started to get a little closer together. She could also handle the contractions, but every time she was checked to see about her dilation, she was VERY SLOWLY progressing. By 1am she was at 5cm and had been in labor for 11 hours. I was getting tired and scared and she was having a hard time handling the pain. She decided to get an epidural so she could get some rest, in case she needed some strength to push eventually.
She was also put on a medication called magnesium due to her high blood pressure. This medicine was to prevent her from having a seizure, which was possible with her blood pressure as high as it was. This drug was horrible. It made her groggy, and couldn’t keep her eyes open, and said that she was having the weirdest dreams. Well, 7 hours later and three doses of epidural, she hadn't progressed at all (5cm and 50% effaced). We had to make a decision...do we keep trying or go ahead with a Cesarean section? And in complete disregard to her wants, she’s decided that it was best for Christian to get the C-Section, so selflessly.
She got wheeled down to OR with me in my scrubs and her mom in the waiting room. The c-section took about 30 minutes. "It wasn't painful per say - just an experience of extreme pressure, like a 500 lb man sitting on your stomach". That was her explanation, But - little Christian Michael Copeland came into the world at 11:33am on Friday, Sept. 14th, 7lbs 8oz and 21in long. He had meconium in his lungs that they had to get out and his left arm was limp. They were concerned about the arm, but it turned out that he was laying on it, and it was just asleep. He has full movement of it now, and has passed all check-ups since his birth.
We stayed in the hospital from Thursday till Tuesday since she was recovering from surgery. It was nice to be waited on and taken care of. She remained on the magnesium for 20 hours and finally got back to herself Saturday night around 6pm. Christian stayed in the nursery at night so we could get some sleep. They would just bring him in for his feedings every 3 hours or so. We had wonderful visitors that helped us pass the time, and had great bonding time as a new family.
This little guy is SO beautiful. We can't tell who he looks like yet, but I'm sure as he grows into his body and fills out a little we'll start to see it more. Her mom is staying with us for a couple days then her grandma may be here for a few as well.
So I deeply apologize for not being as active as I used to be, but kinda got a few things rounding up over here. I want to take this time to thank you guys SOOOO much for all the amazing, AMAZING Prayers, Well-Wishes, Thoughts and all, that means so much to me and Shannon, and we love your love to us, FORREAL!
I have a few things, HUGE, life-Changing things on the horizon, and if they go well, I will make the announcement to you guys, but know that there is definitely TONS of new art that you guys will more than likely not see until the release of the sketchbook, HARD COVER STYLE!
Enjoy the pictures, and can’t wait to share more with you guys, LOVE, PEACE and every other happy word in the dictionary.

Okay yeah i have a few friends that live in Gurnee, my sister used to live out there. Smart move buying out there instead of here in Chicago, WAYYYY TOOO EXPENSIVE! But as far as where i buy comics, i mean i buy literally 2-3 comics per year, so i really dont have a comic home, but whenever i do i usually go to Grahm Crackers downtown Chicago, or to Comics Revolution in Downtown Evanston, but like i said i go maybe 2 or 3 times a year, lol.

Oh man, congrats! Labor's an intense time for everyone involved. My wife was in prodromal (sp?) labor for 36 hours with our first son. And she has a low form of anemia which didn't help the situation as she almost hemmoraged after he was born. Luckily the midwives were awesome and spearheaded that quick. By the way, midwives are DEFINITELY the way to go. Doctors are in and out while the midwives stay with you the whole time and make sure the woman's as comfortable as possible.
I see all the Bears getup. I know y'all are out there, but I have a lucky Brian Cox jersey from when he was on Chicago that I wore to both births. Just brought me back is all.
Again man, it's an awesome time. Welcome to fatherhood!
