The pose is a classic amalgamation of baseball pitcher and flying superhero. The perspective given to the viewer by the tops of the electrical poles and the clouds.
There's a touch of that "Peter Pan" spirit I mentioned before. Just having fun, just happy.
The glove reminds me of an artist who used to do various Marvel books several years ago...
It suggests "baseball glove," but the wide, flat fingers make a bit surreal. Like it was designed to catch his super-father's cosmic-powered throws.
Again, the solid black and sparse detailing... Very nice. Except that his hand closest to the viewer blends into his chest because of the sparsity of the detailing. The thick line under his shin would work well to pick the hand out.
The stitches on the ball are maybe not clear enough; they're just scribbles. Makes it look a bit like a tennis ball.

Thanks Sqarr. As far as the ball goes, i think that it'll remain that way, its a simple drawing with simnple techniques, NOW, if i was making this into a cover, and needed to clean it up, i would definitely be sitting here touching the aformentioned things up. I will play with the lineweights on the hand though, that seems harmless enough, Thanks again bro.

Having just seen the book with that scene in it, I think you captured the spirit of the moment pretty darned well.
I was just spouting thoughts for future reference. No need for touch-ups. It is a pin-up, after all, and pretty much useless for submissions, so don't spend any more time with it. You're already far too busy.

this is fresh man! I love the fluidity of the clouds in the background! they flow oh so nice hah..
the only thing i'd change is the glove. I think it looks a bit too thin? Maybe make it a little more bulkier, but just a bit :]

chriscopeland In reply to pacman23 [2006-12-05 19:25:40 +0000 UTC]
Thanks yo, my question is, how would you make it bulikier, i mean i see what you are saying, but i dont know why my brain cant wrap around the process of making it bulkier, let me know. Oh and i dont know if you read my latest journal but SADLY imma have to set the Peter Pan thing aside and work on it only when i get extra time, WHICH SUCKS ASS! But i dont want to be in the same boat that i was in when i was at Wizard World Chicago with TONS of Pin-Ups, and 3 pages, LOL! So i gotta do alot of pages, but im telling you man, this piece is coming along AMAZINGLY, cant wait to share it.

That's cool man, take care of business first! I'm swamped with work as it is too. Coloring sequentials, taking illustration commissions and animations are currently on my plate, it's hectic. Just hit me up whenever you get the chance to finish it :]
As far as adding bulk to the glove I'll just make it fluffier, more round all over.. here's a quick overpaint i did [link] . hope it helps! later

AH hAH! I see what you mean now, thats dope, imma have to do that somehow later on, thanks yo. And yeah i will get that piece to you whenever i get the chance to finish it, and good luck with everything man, oh yeah, QUESTION! Are you gonna be in New York for the NY Comic Con, let me know man, PEACE!

Ha! I'll have to look into Invincible... Haven't been big on Western comics for a long while now, but Kirkman's writing is something else entirely. Been following Walking Dead.
Are the Invincible pages coloured? I love uncoloured inks. I can see the artist's work better and I'm really liking yours.

chriscopeland In reply to EagleGosselin [2006-12-05 19:28:45 +0000 UTC]
Ummm, i think you can find the pages somewhere, the artist is the penciller of the comic, so you can check his stuff out, and he may have some pencilled and inked only pages there in his gallery.

The head looks flat to me, bro - it might be because we can't see underneath his chin?
But yeah - this reminds me of when Invincible and Omni-Man are playing baseball Well-written stuff, that book!

Yeah man, thats one of my favorite parts of the entire series, i love that Father-Son thing they got going on in that scene. As far as the flathead thing, i guess if/when i add some greytones that'll be fixed, we'll see.
