It is a very striking picture.

I can understand why you are annoyed. Mind you, I would be flattered if 5000 people wanted to share one of my pictures. (but then I don't operate on the same level as you).

I hope you keep up the good work though.

thank you Eddie, its more about the honesty of people who stole the picture and claimed it as their own, i have four or five other pictures that i know of that have been stolen and claimed as other peoples work, i think we'd all be flattered if 5000 people liked our photography so much, but its the not knowing which angers me so much, i just take pictures of what i see Eddie, i'm just a hobbiest nothing more or less than that.

i wont be taking anymore of these what i call "portrait pictures" its really not worth the hassel, have a great Sunday out there

Despite my rather flippant sense of humour I do take things seriously and would be annoyed if someone claimed one of mine as theirs. Watermarks are a tricky issue. It seems a shame to take a lovely picture and then spoil it by putting a mark across the middle. But at the edges they would just edit it off.

Anyway, I like the elegant style you bring to all your photos, so I will be happy whatever you do.

I wish you a great Sunday too.

thank you ... yes watermarks can be removed as well, and ive always hated watermarks in the centre of pictures, but thats life, have a great Sunday

Well, I can appreciate why people would want to use it but you’d hope they’d at least have the manners to credit you.

I had this discussion recently, elsewhere, and I have to say I wouldn’t know how to check. I once found a pic of mine that someone was using as a header on their blog but other than that I wouldn’t know.

Great shot though!

ahhhhh yes indeed it's really annoyed me to be honest with you, this is the third one that i've found out there and then i shrugged and gave up just in case i found more, it's obviously made me change my idea of what i want to photograph these days so all projects are on hold.

yes i did the same but i won't be uploading anymore portraits here, i only post here and on my Fb page which only has a very small following to be honest, it seems that there has been a constant flow of people telling us that certain Deviants work have been found in others profiles which just makes me annoyed, ahhhh yes i think those of us who are constant do give a heads up to others ...

So sorry to hear that you've been a victim to image theft, Chris. It really is a jungle out there - even DA doesn't help, by turning a blind eye to accounts full of stolen images. Looking through your other replies, I do like the idea of including a barely visible watermark. The only thing I tend to do is upload images that aren't my final edit - anything that I produce as a print (for competitions etc) generally has more work done on it.

Some may say that it's a sign that someone likes your work - I guess that must be right, but it's still an abuse of copyright and pure bad manners.

It's a judgement call, I guess, Chris. I regularly think about bailing, but generally find a few positives that keep me onboard, although probably not posting as much as I used to. Keep safe!

everytime i think about it i get a sudden influx of new watchers, for me i need to concentrate on abstracts as i think my portraits are the ones that find themselves on the net, ive stopped posting them everywhere right now as the only way forward, well for me anyway, i'll try to and you to Dave

partiallyHere [2020-03-11 19:28:11 +0000 UTC]

i understand that tumblr is all about sharing images found on the internet, nontheless it would be so easy to post a credit! they don't even bother to know where did the image come from. i'm afraid it's mostly ignorance.

some of course know and still pretend it's theirs and that's a different story.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chriseastmids In reply to partiallyHere [2020-03-11 19:53:59 +0000 UTC]

thank you Hanan, yes ignorance is an acceptable approach because you see a picture you like it, you don't always know the history of the image, but saying its their own work is a different story and totally unacceptable

HoremWeb [2020-03-11 19:11:57 +0000 UTC]

I placed over 30 DMCA take-down notice for some of my images and all got down within few hours. If you mind it, it is worth to try. Alternately you can remind them to pay the usage fee and supplement. This works less frequently, but may worth a try, too.

I also +1 Eugene's idea of making the image available in small resolution. And another one: a barely visible watermark in a hidden corner may help you to prove your rights over the image. And sometimes it is good to fill the IPTC part, too.

There are many ways to take a photo off any site,
no matter what size it is or if it is watermarked or not

Sorry this happened to you Chris, are you going after
the people that are using your photo?

Good luck Friend

I got my photo back, but it was not easy...

I had to prove that I was not the thief and
had not stolen it from the person who stole it...

Wishing you the very best, and it is a wonderful photo

there is no manual or test for internet protocols before going online, thus the cavalier attitude
the fix is easier than what we've been told, but would reduce traffic (money)

yes indeed, ive had the discusion before with people about understanding that as soon as you post anything on the net its already lost its ownership, so be prepared for the "whatever outcome" but supprisingly it still shocked me

I agree, and I except the possibility of theft every time I post on the internet.  that is why I only post small files and allow downloads.  think of it as a compliment about your work.  great is great, still it would be nice to get the credit.

thanks Eugene, i thought about only putting up small images but it could still happen, i don't mind people sharring my work at all i just wanted someone to give me credit for the work, its a hard one because if you know the title of a picture you can trace its heritage but without that you can't trace it ...
