They're a race of zombie-like, terminator-like, borg-like Egyptian themed ancient robots called Necrons, and they're from Warhammer 40,000. :3
It explains it all in the link I showed you, but yeah, that's basically what they are.

I think Warhammer 40,000 was around a little bit before that, but I think the Necrons were made in the 80s. o3o

When Warhammer 40K was created 1987 and when the Necrons were created in 1998 : Wizards (released in 1977) has totally ripped off the Necron name.
Necrons which, moreover, are not inspired at all by the movie Gandahar released in 1988...
