Description
This is try 3 to upload this.. It should work now, I have cut the JPEG Quality quite a bit and the file size is tiny -- not that I like crappy JPEG errors in wallpaper. But it looks ok.I have turned off the distances in AO so there is no grainy-ness to this render. It is also less monochromatic because I used some better lighting. If you like it, +fav it.

3d. How much fun is that. I have always wanted to try it but i am too..........
......um lazy i guess. Right when i was leaving college was right when they really started to focus on it as a class. Bad timing i guess.

Yeah, 3d... it is like a combination of drafting, photography and getting kicked in the face. And chances are you only like one thing on that list but POW! you have all three.
It is never too late to learn, [link] you can download the program (only a few MB, nothing crazy - comes in Windows and Mac plus some more exotic versions) and the documentation from the books is all provided for free via their Wiki. There are also a lot of video tutorials on YouTube and the like.
It is really cool, but takes a lot to master. If you are a Photoshop shortcut key user then Blender will not be that bad because there are a few menus but the keys are easiest to remember.
I have very simple taste and talents to match, I use Blender mainly for simple logos when I want something to pop. I bet I will get a better chance to do more 3d now that I am a paid artist.

Can we get some color please?
I think some colored variations of this would be awesome. I vote blue.

Looks very cool, but is still simple
Got here from the 'post your best render' at the blenderartists (formerly known as elysiun?), wasn't this the splashscreen in a version of Blender?

No, I wish. This was just an experiment that ended up cool. There have been a lot of others with very similar work. I can only take credit for the lighting, the original ideas have been inspired by so many others.
Thank you for the Fav and the comment. I appreciate them!

makes for a cool desktop. simple yet complex. good render, the grainyness of it adds a little something to it. nice to see its not got any vectors or anything over it too. works nicely as a wallpaper.

Thank you. I think simplicity is best for a wallpaper, people can add to it if they want (I am just happy to see things in use).
Great gallery! Such detail (and it's twisted-o-licious with extra bile). What we call in Maine "Wicked Cool". I will have to check it out later...
