Description
Black Mesa Tactical Operations VehicleHEAVILY modified 1987 GMC S-15 Pickup (Same as a Chevy S-10). Only original parts are the frame, some of the cab, the rear axle, the front differential & control arms. Everything else has been changed.
I've had this truck quite longer than the Aperture laboratories Commodity Location Alteration Vehicle, but just noticed I have NO pictures of it on my dA! So here she is.

One does not simply buy a Black Mesa Tactical Operations vehicle.

Love the 1st Gen S-series trucks! Also, I know that the largest engine choice from 1986-1987 was the anemic 2.8L EFI V6 engine, good for about 125 hp. Did you leave the engine stock or did you drop a 4.3L Vortec V6 in there? Or even better, did you put a small block Chevy V8 in it?

When I purchased it with only 73k original miles it had the 2.8 V6, and at 74k miles the POS motor started knocking. Instead of fixing that useless boat anchor, I pulled it and installed a Vortec 4.3 V6 from a 1995 Blazer and a 700R4 from a 1992 Blazer. It was tricky getting the 700R4 to mate with the Vortec motor since there was a 4L60E behind it, and the 700R4 uses a detent cable connected to the throttle body unlike the computer controls of the 4L60E. I had to build a hybrid throttle body from the 2.8, a spare 1992 non-Vortec 4.3, and the Vortec 4.3 in order to attach the cable and have it work properly.
I didn't do much for power modifications, but I did A LOT of modifications to get the motor in there and working properly & reliably. Had to get a different ECM, custom burned PROM, and a lot of creative wiring.
The 4.3 is great, but it's still not enough power for me. I have a Vortec 5.3 crate engine ready to go in the truck, complete with wiring harness, ECM, and everything needed to convert the truck over to OBD-II.

Are you going to have functioning A/C and heat? I met this guy at a car show who did a V8 conversion on his 1983 S-10. Because the small block V8 is bigger than the V6, he had to move the engine back about an inch so the air-conditioner components would fit.

It didn't come with A/C from the factory, but I have the complete A/C system for the 5.3 Vortec and my plow truck has the 4.3 w/ A/C. You bet it's getting air conditioning!
I know a guy that has a 6.6L Duramax in his S10. It's pretty awesome, and has A/C

1st gen S-series trucks with factory A/C had the best damn A/C ever. Good old R-12 Freon! Even the 1994 1st gen S-series Blazers and Jimmies had R-12 while all other 1994 GM trucks had R134a.
So, are you going to get OEM A/C controls for a 1986-1993 S-series, or go with like Vintage Air or something?

Where did you find that antenna and bracket assembly? I'm looking for something just like that for my project.

That's for my CB (which gets EXCELLENT range). You can buy the antenna, spring and mount at Radio Shack andhe bracket it's mounted on is something that I made out of 1/8" steel that replicates the antenna bracket from a CUCV.
