Description
"Team, you're ten minutes from commencement. What's your status?"The cloaked figure pressed a finger to his ear. "Standing by, ready to begin."
"Understood 2-1. Be ready to commence operations. Viscount out."
The two men sat in their blind, trying to listen to anything that wasn't the sound of the rain pattering down from the forest leaves. It may have been dark out, but they could see fine. Even covered by a bandage, Poacher's cybereye gave him an excellent sight of the surrounding area, even if it was tinted in slightly grainy green static. For now though, there was nothing but leaves, trees and bark surrounding them.
"They really want this to be on clockwork huh?" Jacket spoke. His rifle was locked and loaded. His face was partially obscured from the hooded rain kit that he wore. His two blue cybereyes looked back towards Poacher.
"Patience. If we're going to make this work they need their own fighters in position as well."
They huddled under the camouflage blind by the dead tree trunk. Earlier they saw a few drones pass overhead, but there was no reaction; the blind and the stealth armor Poacher and Jacket wore hid their thermal signatures well enough.
Poacher watched as his partner seemed to fine tune the settings on his rifle scope.
"You haven't zeroed your gun in yet?" he asked. It was sloppy to do it in the field like this.
"Just triple checking."
"Your systems are not going to suddenly change in five seconds. You're fine."
Jacket ceased his task, but he didn't seem to relax. "I triple check my stuff, alright? I'm not the only one who does it."
"Yeah well, you look like you're aching for a fight from here." Poacher replied. "Is this your first operation?"
"Fuck no."
"Then stop acting like you're fresh from camp and stay focused. We want a solid strike, but not a bloodbath."
A few moments later, a faint feeling of regret passed Poacher. Was that last line of his a little too far? Or was it just enough?
"Look, I trust you know what you're doing. But don't fret about it alright?"
"Who are you, my Dad? Just relax, I got this as well." Jacket said, carefully putting in a bit of humor into his voice. Jacket's eyes went to the weapon in Poacher's hands. "Is your shit zeroed in?"
The crossbow in Poacher's hands was a nice familiar weight, with a green fletched bolt sitting in a rack of metal and carbon fiber.. His smartlink system to the scope was working perfectly, with the trajectory system lighting a path on his AR feed.
As he examined it briefly, the timer began to tick down. It was time to move soon. He took a little metal cannister from his vest, similar in size and shape to a shotgun shell and pressed it on to the head of the crossbow bolt. It would make it a bit less aerodynamic perhaps, but explosive arrowheads were a fine partystarter.
"Don't you worry. I'm an old hand at this." he said with a thin smile.

Hey everyone!
This guy was another old character I had. The theme I went with was 'medieval ranger'. Kinda like Robin Hood, except in the future. I went with a crossbow, because I figured I already did an archer character with Iara. Garrett from Thief was a big inspiration, particularly with the green cybereye. I was also partly inspired by the 'evil dad' energy of Captain Price.
Overall however, I keep wondering what I could do differently. Maybe add wiring of some kind? Would that add to, or confuse the design? Who knows indeed.
