Description
"She's one of our freelance operators." Murchison said without looking up from his phone. "Red has shown herself quite capable of covert work, both by herself and with her partner.""She enhanced?" The client asked, looking out into the rainy night sky.
"Like most operators in the business. Hard to get stuff done without them nowadays."
"Anything notable?"
"Nothing too special." Murchison dropped his phone and grabbed an apple off the table. "Her cybereyes are capable of seeing into the infrared spectrum, her skeletal structure reinforced, muscles reinforced with synthetics and reaction times enhanced among some of the enhancements made to her. Y'know, general work."
"So what makes her special then?"
"Well lets just say she has an uncanny knack for manipulation. She's quite good at misdirection. People think something's up, go to investigate but it turns out it's nothing. Too bad, she already has what she needed." Murch leaned forward in his chair with a somewhat animated look on his face. "And then they start wondering what happened to their friends. And then wonder about what happened to the lights. And then...pok." He finished with a smile and a tapping motion.
The client gave a non-committal grunt. "She has a partner?"
"Aye. Jacket. Good man. The two work together much of the time."
"Professional partners?"
"You could say that. for this... I reckon she could do it with limited support easy enough."
"She's willing to do wetwork?"
"Depends on the target."
"Oh heavens, please don't tell me she has a heart of gold or some bullshit like that." the client groaned, turning away from the window with a disapproving look on his face. "I find that sort of character to be utterly insipid."
"I find it refreshing truth be told." Murch said, polishing the fruit on his shirt. "Cyberpsychos who burn down orphanages with smiles on their faces are dime a dozen nowadays. Nice to see someone with some real standards."
The client sighed. "Well I suppose the man I had in mind later on has it coming..." He looked at the image of her for awhile. "She a reservation kid?"
Murchison grunted in the affirmative as he chewed his apple.
"Which tribe?"
"Now that there's personal secrets. Can't tell you that, It'd be unprofessional." he said with his mouth half full. Swallowing, he added "But I can assure you she's up for the job. Give me a phone call and you can meet her yourself if you want."
"No, it's best if I never met her." The client put down a memory stick. "The information we discussed is here. I'm sure you can tell her what to do."
-------------------
Well people, perhaps it's time to try something else.
A few months ago I got myself a draw tablet. I've always entertained the idea of drawing, but whenever I drew on a piece of paper tended to look like horseshit. Even after I got the tablet I found it difficult to really get into it. I'd sketch in a desultory fashion for a few minutes before eventually shutting the damn thing off in frustration.
That changed when my friend FutureFavorite invited me onto a discord chat about a week ago. It's a simple hangout for artists and people he knew and it was great chatting with him and others about various things, but I was most grateful for the opportunity to work with others. Gave me the focus needed to sketch something up and power through it. So, here's the first piece of work I have to show for it! It's not much, some stuff I drew and traced from refs in photoshop. And there's probably more I could have done here and there. But she's finished.
She's an old OC of mine that I put around in Shadowrun. In this iteration, she's mundane, but I often play her as a mage. From the NAN, she used to hang out with ecological movements, with her partner and lover Jacket. At least until they both got suckered into a radical terrorist group.
Needless to say, after going private, they're pretty careful of who they work for.
For her suit, I was directly inspired by two of my favorite games, Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell. Creeping in the shadows has always been a thing for my characters. I imagine it's a stealthsuit that focusing on masking one's electromagnetic and thermal signature as opposed to visual. One needs it in the automated future. I also added some cloth and patterning that I felt were reminiscent of native american attire, hopefully without being way too on the nose.
After this I might move onto Jacket next.
Onwards!
