Hel, ruler of the land of the dead, where she rules over the souls who did not die in battle. Although she is commonly referred to as a goddess of the dead in modern texts, Hel was more giantess then goddess, being one of the three children of Loki and the giant Angrboda.

Hel’s relatively unthreatening nature is likely why she was not punished as harshly as her family members. While her father and brothers were all bound, Hel was sent to a far-off realm to be a ruler.
