I haven't read thebook not seen the movie, but somehow, I was awestruck at how this piece reminded me of 'Life of Pi' . If you haven't heard of it, it's a story where a teenage indian boy ends up caught with a tiger on a life boat in the middle of the ocean. It would make an amazing book cover.Β

In terms of the technical aspects of this painting, it is very well done. The composition is disorienting for me,Β however, because when I look at this onΒ my screen, the tiger seems like he's "hanging" from the top edge of the painting, and although I like the color runs in watercolor, they reinforce that impression. I think if there was some background foliage near the bottom of the painting, it might give me a better feeling of an animal walking over land. I know that this is supposed to be a top down view, but I have trouble making my eye see it that way.
I don't completely blame the composition though. I think sometimes scanning to digital loses something in translation, so I might not experience the same effect if I was looking at the physical painting. I like this painting, but the perspective throws me off a bit.
