Wow ... I tried to color this but had no luck whatsoever. I kept getting jaggies and by that I don't mean anti-alias issues. I had to really zoom in and use the brush. It would be great if you posted a tutorial. Great job, btw.

Thanks. I used the same brush on the whole piece. I don't know much of anything about the technical aspects of Photoshop, so my process is dirt simple. I don't even know what the brush is called, but it's a default. Square brush that I set to dither on both ends.

Thanks. I tried to use really desaturated colors for a change to match the look of the comic.

as soon as i saw the colours in the thumbnails i thought "goon". i have tiny thumbnails so it was the colour alone. nice one!

Thanks. Everything's hard to me, but it was the way things looked over the markers. Colors didn't look the way I expected once I put them on top of the greys. It kept coming out a lot darker than I wanted. There's a lot of color layering that you can't even really see. It looks like I just slapped single colors over the marker, but there's quite a bit of color rendering going on. Just another learning experience.

ah, i see...
well, it looks great!
its kinda like the old comics, where they only had a few colors
i mean, your technique is beyond amazing
supremely unique
what did you use to color this?

Thanks! PS. One brush...don't recall the name of it. It's square and it's a default though. I set it to pressure sensitive or whatever it's called and started painting...Sorry for the lack of technical lingo..TBH, I don't really know sh!t about this stuff.

really? it is hard to understand
i started using photoshop (version from like 2002) about a half year ago
and i had nooooo clue what i was doing
so, since then, its been a trial and error process
im a little confident now, but i really need the program to continue
i got a new computer, and the PS trial quit on me XD

I think its rad, what method are you using to color?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ChristopherStevens In reply to Alex0wens [2009-08-04 22:59:31 +0000 UTC]
Minimalist hehe. One layer, one brush. Technically two layers..a duplicate layer with multiply. All the colors are on one layer though. Couldn't tell you what the brush is called. It's square and a default.

I did do something similar with one of your pieces, added color to a marker drawing, its in my gallery. I prefer yours though

Chris, check out Ariel Olivetti's Coloring Tutorial on YouTube, it's in spanish and I'd be happy to provide you with a written translation but it's a PERFECT match for your gray marker renderings.

It will compliment your grayscale work tremendously since that's how he works. Grayscale first, then separate elements in different channels and color using "Hue/Saturation" I've been "painting" that way for weeks now and I LOVE it. Let me know if you need that translation, it's already typed.

much better than your old style...it looks like an oil painting.

ChristopherStevens In reply to caiomonteiroart [2009-08-04 23:01:36 +0000 UTC]
It's pretty much the same style as my other color pieces. It's just harder to tell with the markers showing underneath hehe. I also went a lot more desaturated.
