Description
The Legendary Ladder is a renowned structure built by a race of aliens to take advantage of their close proximity to a neighbouring and tidally-locked fertile moon. The Legendary Ladder serves as a colossal elevator between both worlds complete with a stop-off station at the near-halfway point where the gravity of both worlds is in tie with each other. It is used for both practical and leisure purposes and is the central hub of huge cities at both endsMy sole entry to TheLuminarium 's 10th online exhibit and the last "themed" one to my knowledge, given the theme Legendary. As most think of the past when they think of Legends, I deliberately went the other way and thought towards the future.
Creating buildings and spaceships often feels like such a chore to me, regardless of whether I do them in 2D or 3D (much of it was 3D though) I have no idea how other space artists handle them so well
Made using Cinema 4D, Vue 7 and Photoshop, oh, I'm aware the copyright says it was made a few months earlier than the submission date...that's because it was and I had to hold it for a while.
Edit: Wooo! the first time one of my sci-fi themed deviations gets a DD, it is after all one of my favourite things to do! Thanks a lot to *hoevelkamp and ^taenaron , both quality sci-fi/space artists in themselves

Lol, and you can bet such a thing would always be too far away to hope to ever use
Lots of kids come up with their theories on how the Earth and Universe works, I sure had mine, yours is a new one though, never knew any kids assumed that

Thanks for commenting and faving, hmm, I imagine both ends are fixed but the tower would be segmented or perhaps something else that allows bending or possibly even disconnecting

i love this so much but there is something picking at my brain pan a little bit.
it the "Ladder" completely connected to both Worlds? because in order for that to work the Homeworld would have to rotate at the same speed that its Moon Orbits it.
only other way it would work is if it wasn't completely connected and instead Linked up at a certain time when the Moon comes back around and falls into alignment, and even then they would only have so long to cross the connection points before they would have to separate the 2 structures.
that being said, these Beings look as if they may be Advanced enough Technologically that they could just stop the moon from moving at all without negative effects.
just a thought

Chromattix In reply to djomally [2010-10-28 14:11:44 +0000 UTC]
That's an interesting question but I've covered that too. Both worlds are tidally locked, a situation where the moon orbits at the same rate as the planet rotates. This happens quite often when two celestial bodies are really close to each other (relative to their individual sizes) Even so - like our Moon there is some degree of wobbling involved, so the tower would likely be built from metal plates/segments that allow for some bending/stretching etc

It would be a cool place to live if you got one of the higher platforms...you can bet it would be rather slum-like in the gaps between the smaller buildings though

Circlejourney In reply to Chromattix [2010-09-29 13:08:26 +0000 UTC]
But it must be strange right in the middle--feeling more greatly the influence of one gravity first, then suddenly feeling an equal pull as you walk into the dead centre...fascinating, it really is.
What'd the population be like, anyway? In any case, I don't think living in the gaps between the buildings would be too bad, actually. Just that getting used to a new gravity might not be too fun...

Well I guess like any city you'd have your good areas and your bad areas. I can imagine the good areas would be a wonderland of awesome stuff to see and do. The bad areas would be like those terrible grungy futuristic cities you see in so many 80's sci-fi/action movies

So I am very slow at my notifications, and I have literally thousands of them lurking in there BUT I finally got around to this one!!!
Can't really believe I haven't seen it before, what with it getting a DD and all.
This is really cool, especially with the typical version of legendary being old and historical and yours is like.... the historical-ness of a future alien race looking back on its own architecture or something like that... haha
I'm tired, Don't know if this made sense. But I love your concept!!! A DD well deserved!

Chromattix In reply to Anonymonkey [2010-09-18 10:33:17 +0000 UTC]
Lol, I wouldn't even bother with that many Your description is good, I did want this to be the future rather than the past. Who knows, they're probabaly been using this for ages already like our own major buildings
Glad you liked the idea

This is amazing! You should follow it up with what happens if the moon moved out of a tidally-locked position, like it was hit by an asteroid.
