Description Inspired by the advent of new and revised Emoticons here recently, I decided "why not make my own?" - after al, I have the know-how, I have one other animated GIF in my gallery so far and I made my own avatar too...just finding motivation is hard because it literally takes HOURS just to make a few seconds of animation

I might as well enter this Rainbow Contest too, even though I had something else in mind, luckily I can enter twice if need be, wish me luck, I personally thought this was an original and humerous idea for an emoticon, sorry it's a bit bigger than standard emoticons, it was the only way I could get each face to appear clear (the individual emotes by the way ARE correct size) - I wasn't intending this one being one that could actually be used anyway

So lets look at the colour's meanings ay? colour often gives a certain mood in art, I chose the most common representation for each, keep in mind this is in my own words, how I interpret them;

Red: Red is the colour of blood, so since the dawn of time it was a colour used as a warning, red is danger or attention, when we get mad, the blood vessels in our face increase flow and make our faces red!
Orange: Did you know that looking at the colour orange increases oxygen flow to the brain and temporarly improves IQ? that's why I consider orange the "smart" colour, smart people aren't easily impressed, hence why the orange blank-stare emote works so well
Yellow: The colour of sunshine, Daffodils, baby ducklings and all things happy, yellow is bright and lively, the classic smiley face is yellow, and so is the much used "lol" emote
Green: While green can represent nature and health, in reference to humans, looking "green around the gills" as the saying goes often refers to sickness, and anyone who has puked raw green bile would agree
Blue: Arguably the most popular colour on Earth, and also the most common, blue is regarded as cool and calm, hence the sporty sunnies
Indigo: The neglected colour of the spectrum, people will often skip "Indigo and Violet" and just simplify and say "purple" - Indigo is rather dark and dismal, so I thought it would be best for the solemn feel of sadness
Violet: Considered the creative and passionate colour, maybe that's why most of violet's fanbase are often artistic or spiritual people, so the "cute" face I gave is kinda a representation of the loving, deep and understanding nature of many violet lovers

Did you know? - That red light has the longest wavelength followed by orange, right down to violet with the shortest (but with most frequency) - it's that which always causes red to appear first in the rainbow with violet last

Thanks a lot also to `arrioch and ^Synfull for featuring it as a Daily Deviation!

Yeah, the white is emotionless, not even a blank expression it shows it's true colours afterwards

the person who discovered them added indigo because he was religious and believed that 6 was the devils number whereas god made everything in seven days..

Chromattix In reply to Natsumi-Tanazaki [2010-04-14 02:46:49 +0000 UTC]

Wow, really? guess even science can be influenced by religion unfortunately but I guess it's also made easier to remember since there was this rhyme or something to remember the colours but I forget how it goes, but it needed a word starting with "I" near the end

Technically, one can even say there's a million colours, as they "blend" with each other and so the colour varies ever so slightly from one area to the next. On the othe rhand one could say there's even less colours, like "orange" is merely the blending point between yellow and red, so it's really open to interpretation

I needed at least one "sad" one in there as it's also a main emotion Violet is my fave of the colours too but actually - it's the Indigo one that's feeling blue, Violet on the end there is rather content

THE RAINBOW OF EPICNESS!

Indigo-the-Seedrian [2010-01-09 23:29:18 +0000 UTC]

..Indigo and Violet are my favorite colors. When I was little I'd watch my dad wash the car with the hose and count all the rainbows that appeared

And I ALWAYS file my pencils/textas/pens in a rainbow. And I would get really cranky at anyone who put them back in the wrong order. I got mad when there was no indigo pencil in the coloring box

Awesome emote, too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to Indigo-the-Seedrian [2010-01-10 07:06:30 +0000 UTC]

Lol, you sound so much like me, I used to get such a kick out of the rainbows that came from hose spray, the colourful patterns that occur in car parks after rain when the oil and water on the concrete mix and shimmer or even the swirls of colours that form in bubbles (used to blow bubbles all the time )

I was fussy with my crayons and pencils too, they HAD to be put pack in correct colour order guess that's my artistic side colliding with my obsessive side

Indigo-the-Seedrian In reply to Chromattix [2010-01-10 08:40:29 +0000 UTC]

Hose spray rainbows are awesome. And bubbles. They're amazing how all the colours swirl round. And I had a pai of sunglasses I always wore in the car and when I looked out the window the sky was rainbow coloured. LOL, I still have them |D

I always got so MAD when they were put back WRONG. It drove me INSANE when about five seconds after I arranged them perfectly that my sister had to borrow one again and when she put it back SHE PUT IT IN THE WRONG SPOT. I ish have an obsessive side too

Chromattix In reply to AGBBibag [2009-12-08 12:49:11 +0000 UTC]

Cool, I think all of that kind of stuff, though technical and a bit confusing at first - ends up being really interesting when given a chance...few enough people as is can state the correct rainbow order of colours from red to violet, and even fewer again know the reason why red always appears first needless to say - it makes me feel smart

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AGBBibag In reply to Chromattix [2009-12-09 11:27:03 +0000 UTC]

I don't remember the order of the rainbow. I just know about the wave lengths and how white light is made up of all different colours. you should feel smart. You actually know how to make this stuff.

is that actually true? the blood flow thing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to Affet-kak [2009-12-02 05:26:45 +0000 UTC]

I remember hearing that on an advertisement for a "museum of colour" that took place in the city for a few months a few years ago. So there's the possibility that it's been discredited by now but I still believe it...looking at a lot of any colour can change peoples emotional and sometimes physical status temporarily, even if it's just by a bit Like, ever wonder why fast food restaurants always use colours like red, orange and yellow? - it's because these colours stimulate hunger

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Affet-kak In reply to Chromattix [2009-12-02 12:28:01 +0000 UTC]

mm true the emotion change part

didnt even think about the fast food hunger part, and i suppose these bright colours make you happy, so you walk away with a bit of a high, so you will want to return (subconciously) for that high...
actually wow! theres heaps of shit like that when you think about it!
subliminal, scientific art. lol oxymoron

Quasar-Mouse [2009-11-30 17:49:07 +0000 UTC]

I've heard that colors like red and yellow are known to stimulate appetite.

Which is probably why McDonald's uses them in their logo.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to Quasar-Mouse [2009-11-30 23:59:59 +0000 UTC]

Yes! I heard that too it makes perfect sense to me too, most foods (unless they have colouring in them) usually appear in those warm red/orange/yellow colours and sometimes green when fruits and vegetables are involved so the human mind affiliates those colours with food I'm guessing...probably why all fast food restaurants use those colours and some have bits of green in their logo

Chromattix In reply to Hamish87 [2009-11-12 03:08:53 +0000 UTC]

Infra-red and Ultraviolet are apparently just before, and after each end of the rainbow...I think if we could see them they'd probably be just like normal red and violet but I can not comprehend what it would be like to discover "new" colours, whenever I try, I just end up thinking of a real one
