Description "An Urban legend states, that if you shudder for no reason at all, then someone has just walked over the spot where you'll eventually be buried"...Pretty creepy huh?

Anyway, This is my submission for the =TreesClub Halloween contest where you had to produce a Halloween-themed deviation that involved the tree being the main focus. Nearly all the entries were photography so I though and hope this would stand out from the crowd, and the idea expressed is pretty self explanatory.

To be Honest, Halloween isn’t a big deal in Australia, last year our house got no trick-or-treaters, and the year before that, only 2. Even I wasn’t allowed to do it as a kid unless my mother came with me and my younger brother, even then, we’d only visit half a neighbourhood…at 5pm which is still daylight at this time of the year ( Southern hemisphere means Halloween is in Spring ) So having little Halloween experience means I never cared enough about it to make one for last year, and if it weren’t for this contest, I may not have done this either but it sparked this image in my head which I just HAD to do…Yeah, it may not look scary like a Macabre and Horror deviation should, but when am I going to get to use this category for my gallery. Hope you enjoy it mwah ha ha ha ha ( walks off into creepy mist to work on the next deviation )

WooHoo!...This is my first deviation to earn more than 100 faves in its first 24 hours...ThankYou all so much !

WooHoo again, This came first place in the clubs first contest !

To avoid something really scary, I bid you do not rip my art. It'll save us all a lot of time and its just wrong

Thanks a lot well I'm kinda old to go trick-or-treating now But it would be a totally new experience for me to see houses decorated in Halloween stuff...dosn't happen here, which is weird since some bargain stores stock lots of Halloween decorations I guess people just use them for parties

Christmas on the other hand - they started stocking decorations for that before the Halloween stuff

joeyartist In reply to Chromattix [2010-10-22 00:11:27 +0000 UTC]

More people are decorating their house for Halloween here than they used to. What I meant was if you came to a place like Waikiki on Halloween, you would see HEAPS of adults in amazing costumes. I am sure some would be arrested any other day of the year for how little they have on!

I shudder for no reason at least 3 times a day!Does that mean that the spot I'll be burried is the highway?

Way too late congratulations for winning the contest though!

About the picture, the tree is very well done.I like the way it seems like the branches are swirling around the main one, making it look like there are other trees in the main one.The fact that all of the branches are looking to the ground and that this tree has no leaves at all,is somehow a representation of death, since it shows something that's not dying, but it's already dead. The big (red,orange,yellow...pick one colour) moon behind the tree is been supposed to be the one that all of the night creatures(that means all the undead, dead and spiritual beings) prefer to have in order to make their appearance in front of humans(as a lot of people say). Now,under the tree, where it seems like a place that 3 people were been burried or a too old cemetery, the vegetation seems to be very low,as the only thing that appears to grow there is herbs. The way the gravestones have been placed show that it's an abandoned place that human don't go often. The skulls that stand before the gravestones confirm that this place is death-related.The light that comes out of them is creating a spooky but not so scary atmosphere. What really would creep anyone out is that those skulls have been places in a position that shows that the ones that have been burried in that place had been burried alive, like the rest of their body been underground and only their heads out of it.Seems like a very torturing way to kill somebody. The punpkings seem to be the less scary yet entertaining part of the picture,as it is ironic that they're opposed to the skulls, but in the same direction as them.I'd match each skull with a pumpking. It also shows that there may be some people who went and left the pumpkings there in order to make the "spooks" not to visit their homes..or would it be an offering that they remember them.Seems like a cursed place anyways.

(Is off to steal this picture. Is waiting for the concequences.)

That first bit was funny

Very descriptive cmment, it shows you took absolutely everything I included into consideration when viewing this Yes the twisted, downwards branches are a perfect sign of a tree that has reached old age and already died ages ago. The full moon is a classic horror favourite (which is strange since it's also the symbol of romance too, just like the colour red - to some red is love, passion but to others its blood, danger ) Here though it's definetily for the horror theme instead

This place would certainly be abandoned, grass and weeds growing everywhere. Makes me wonder exactly how old the oldest graveyards are, nothing lasts forever so I wonder what happens when a cemetary disappears either by natural weathering or being demolished for new developments The pumpkins I did want to look a bit friendly and even "funny" compared to the skulls too. I don't like making anything too dark

20Tourniquet02 In reply to Chromattix [2010-10-13 13:27:56 +0000 UTC]

Let me confirmed that the first bit is true as well!
(Indeed,I shuddered an hour ago 3 times,wtf?)

Well, seems like I'm getting better into reading pictures instead of producing new ones...I should be ashamed!

I like this tree! You must teach me how to do it!

Now that you've mentioned it,this is the perfect place for anyone to go on a date!
(I'd like to see scary couples, they're so funny,or mixed ones, like the one in the dead bride!)This way you have both the romance and the horror gendre, something that exists in most of the horror movies(it makes me disappointed sometimes, because you can't have overrated romance in a horror movie! It ruins the horror gendre!)Plus, there are others who believe that whatever has to do with red,is automatically love and blood.(I bet you know those guys...they like being confusing)

Well,a lot of old cememteries have been discovered and...became exhibits. No need to worry though,as what remains on earth has no real mature. What goes to heaven does!

So,you DID create a scary movie pic!Congratulations for mixing everything up!

halloween is one of my favorite holidays, what i love about this one is that it isnt commercialized. its very organic, and i love the perfect position of the moon behind the branches, i also give kudos to ur branches themselfs, they even project the creepy feeling all by themselves by the way you have them twisted and crooked.
the lighted skulls and realistic pumpkins and tombstones are very nice touches as well

Chromattix In reply to Luckie-13 [2010-01-18 12:23:31 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou, since Halloween has such weak ties in Australia - the commercialised parts are the only thing we see of it, costume sand candy in stores and that's about is, the streets however are quite bare on these balmy Spring Halloween nights (I guess the bright cheerfulness of a Spring afternoon is a mood-killer anyway, ghosts and zombies don't like sunshine and flowers lol ) Glad you liked this, what's an old, spooky tree without twisted, dead branches anyway?
