Description
My first Avatar-inspired deviation!I could have gone for a ground view showing one of the many epic landscapes. But that can always be done later. I don't see much of the space scene seen very early on in the film, so that combined with the fact I promised many people my next 360 "Vue It" work was going to be a space one just meant it was the right theme to choose. It was at least lighter in polygon count than my first two that were very "tree-heavy" bumping their polygon counts into the several millions which resulted in countless crashes. Still had a fair amount with this but comparatively not as bad so bouts of swearing while making this was minimal
As for technical aspects, this was testing a version of Vue that can't actually render planets to its limits, that along with clever use of postwork allowed me to simulate a pretty authentic looking world below the viewer anyway. Rendering would have taken eons for me and so I got help, so I'll jump to credits for help before continuing:
Anyway, this required constant hopping between Vue 7 and Photoshop as some areas needed to be painted on and then brought back into the 3D world again to be rendered with the right amount of distortion and then composed in Photoshop again etc. I won't ramble on, Ill just say it was as hard to do as it looks, so just enjoy it!
Vue it - Pine Shrine
Vue it - Christmas Village
Vue It - Holiday House
Vue It - Haunted Harvest

Yup! It just finished it's 5 year, 8 month and 22days journey travelling at 70% of Light Velocity. hurray 210,000 kilometers per second Considering the fastest object humanity has sent to date is only travelling at 16 kilometers per second
But, then again, we do not yet have any feesable control over anti-matter like they do in the movie's future.

Lol, I haven't heard that song in a long time
Thanks a lot for commenting and faving. I guess in regards to tips I would say try and customize everything you can, too many people lazily let the program do all the work by using the preset materials, terrains, atmospheres etc, which is OK - since that's what they are there for, but they stick out obviously to seasoned professionals and you won't learn anything by sticking to the defaults A nice site for some free video tutorials is this one [link] They have a lot, so it might take some searching to find for the basic essentials. The "better" tutorials usually cost money though

Angel-JXJ In reply to Chromattix [2012-03-21 01:38:55 +0000 UTC]
I know what you mean. Gotta make it stick out right? Make it your own?
And about the tutorials, you REALLY have to pay? Wow, but I guess it's worth it. So tell me your story: What got you into this? How long have you been working in it and what age did you start? How long did it take you to learn what you know to make THIS masterpiece?

Chromattix In reply to Angel-JXJ [2012-03-21 08:01:54 +0000 UTC]
That's very true, I know of one user in particular (I won't mention their name because these things have a way of coming back and biting me in the ass years down the track) But their Vue work has remained consistently shit for several years, all because they are unwilling to learn how to make their own stuff, or at least unwilling to buy better models, materials, plants, atmosphere's etc from Cornucopia3D They use nothing but preset stuff all the time and there has been absolute zero improvement in the quality of their work since they started using it years ago
That's why an eagerness to learn is so important, otherwise you'll forever be stuck in the same loop without improvement Of course, in your earlier renders there's no problem just playing around with what the program gives you, I mean just don't limit yourself to that forever
I have watched very few "paid" tutorials and even though they were really helpful, I still say if you're willing to look hard enough and experiment, then you don't need to pay to learn anything. I started doing art ever since I was a little kid, but this 3D stuff has just been in the past few years, my earliest 3D renders were pretty crappy, but I still remember the excitement of those stages

Angel-JXJ In reply to Chromattix [2012-03-21 13:43:18 +0000 UTC]
LOL, pwned.
And yes, I have an eagerness to learn (did I mention I'm only 16?). Thanks for the pro tips, I have so much to learn :.(
Say, how much would these other bits and pieces cost? Could I use them on a student version of the software?
π: 0 β©: 1
Chromattix In reply to Angel-JXJ [2012-03-21 14:31:20 +0000 UTC]
I was 18 by the time I got my first chance to use 3D programs, so at least you get to start sooner, they're a lot more accessible these days
Hmm, you wouldn't be able to do the kind of stuff I do with the student version or cheaper versions, they tend to be very limited in what they can do. But great beginner material. It's just that some tutorials out there involve stuff that can only be done in the "higher" versions

Aww man that sucks...but it's understandable. I guess it's just what I need at the moment though, because I'm already juggling learning Maya and I've also got other software to learn as well...but like you said, at least I'm starting early right? Anyway thx for the pro tips, I'll make sure to come to you with noob questions if I'm REALLY not understanding something in a tutorial

Dude I donΒ΄t think thatΒ΄s one of the coolest pieces inspired by that movie...
I find this to be THE coolest PIECE (singular) inspired by ANY movie.
And IΒ΄m a Star Wars fan.

Lol,Thanks a lot. I did want to try and create the best thing inspired by that movie. Everyone drew some pretty good fan-art of the Na'vi. But I wanted to really immerse people in one of the first impressions they got of Pandora

TheSangson In reply to Chromattix [2012-02-18 07:55:17 +0000 UTC]
Yeah dude,thatΒ΄s what I meant.
I really loved the movie(and I WANT part two !!)but not by a long chalk would I have searched for artwork about it,since I know exactly what IΒ΄d find:1 billion NeyΒ΄tiris,99.9 million Jake Sullys,99.8 million HUMAN Jake Sullys and 250000 pics of Pandoran animals(mostly predators),battlesuits and EyyΒ΄va trees of which about 2000 were really good,300 be interesting for me and five THAT cool IΒ΄d fave them(of which at least three were about Sigourney Weavers character).
But what YOU did, thatΒ΄s unique, epic, heavy stuff, something thatΒ΄s really ADDING something to the experience of the movie instead of just depicting parts of it.Hey as I come to think of it,thatΒ΄s nearly impossible and a bit BEYOND simple fanart...

Is it covering the add to favourites button? since it shouldn't unless you're using an older monitor with a lower screen resolution
You might even have to go back to thumbnail mode and drag that into a collection if you can't do it the normal way (when you saw this in someone's favourites or in my gallery perhaps before actually clicking to view it)
