Description My first Avatar-inspired deviation! yeah, only took like - a year and a half, but the timing seemed right and hopefully this turned out to be what is arguably one the the coolest pieces inspired by that movie anyone will ever see

Scroll down to zoom in
Scroll up to zoom out.
Or use Shift or Control keys to do either.
Click and drag to look around.

I could have gone for a ground view showing one of the many epic landscapes. But that can always be done later. I don't see much of the space scene seen very early on in the film, so that combined with the fact I promised many people my next 360 "Vue It" work was going to be a space one just meant it was the right theme to choose. It was at least lighter in polygon count than my first two that were very "tree-heavy" bumping their polygon counts into the several millions which resulted in countless crashes. Still had a fair amount with this but comparatively not as bad so bouts of swearing while making this was minimal

As for technical aspects, this was testing a version of Vue that can't actually render planets to its limits, that along with clever use of postwork allowed me to simulate a pretty authentic looking world below the viewer anyway. Rendering would have taken eons for me and so I got help, so I'll jump to credits for help before continuing:
SOULSSHINE Did the rendering after I made the scene, took WAY too long on my comp.
Smattila exported it into this Flash format after I had completed all the artwork.
Anyway, this required constant hopping between Vue 7 and Photoshop as some areas needed to be painted on and then brought back into the 3D world again to be rendered with the right amount of distortion and then composed in Photoshop again etc. I won't ramble on, Ill just say it was as hard to do as it looks, so just enjoy it!

Others in the "Vue It" series:
Vue it - Pine Shrine
Vue it - Christmas Village
Vue It - Holiday House
Vue It - Haunted Harvest

All artwork and animations in my gallery are my copyrighted property and are not to be used without my permission, this includes any screenshots of parts of the scene.

Yeah, I hate the loading time for this myself. Normally I don't mind sacrificing quality for loading times but for these I try to get maximum quality I can (for under 10 Megabytes at least )

Just be lucky we are past the days of Dial-Up (if you are using that though then my deepest sympathies hope it's worth it!)

Chromattix In reply to hyurellk [2011-09-18 09:05:29 +0000 UTC]

Using a bunch of different programs, it's hard to explain, one I used for creating 3D objects, one for other 3D stuff and rendering it to it all aligns up properly, Photoshop for major edits and one more program that allows me to export the image into this interactive format

Chromattix In reply to tschreurs [2011-09-14 11:04:12 +0000 UTC]

I modelled many parts of it myself, especially the space station, and the planets were done by me too. I composed much of it in Vue where I was able to render it in such a way that I could get it to map all the way around in this panorama (exported via PanoQTVR) yeah - a lot of programs were used

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tschreurs In reply to Chromattix [2011-09-15 15:15:19 +0000 UTC]

okay You work whit vue often? I work whit 3D maya.. Is vue for making landscape ans so? I think i want to learn it to

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to tschreurs [2011-09-16 01:45:39 +0000 UTC]

Vue is mostly intended for landscape art - it fills that void in the 3D art world since normally landscapes are really hard to replicate in normal 3D programs and they require monsterous polygon counts (just one good tree can be half a million polygons ) Vue deals with all of that. You can import models from other software and render them in a Vue environment, but only with the higher versions of the program (the cheap ones are too limited and don't have that ability)

This is the first Vue thing I've seen, and I didn't realise that it was an all-round-perspective view, so it took me a moment to look up Can't wait to see what you do to push the program to its limits!

This is... holy fuck, man. The forest didn't really grab me, I liked the Christmas town, but this is on a whole other level. I really think space is the best setting for this sort of thing.

Glad there's some who like this one above the rest, it's my personal favourite too even though the others were a bit more difficult. Though the others got plenty of attention and this one kinda trailed behind So the fact you like this one more helps balance things out I guess
