Chilling in there is fun. The best place to chill is on the roof usually... It's really tall. Like 20 stories. You can get a view of downtown Detroit. It's beautiful up there. It's like you have a secret place away from the rest of the world.

That's always a concern of going to these sorts of abandoned places. See if you can get others to go with ya. I usually go with at least 4 or 5 other people. I've gone alone a few times but that's because I've gotten to know the place so well and actually feel really safe there. I might get shot there someday... I dunno... But it's fun to go so I keep going and I doubt something bad will actually happen... Go in the daytime when the sun is up, chances are the homeless people will be out begging for spare change. If you do happen to encounter a homeless person. Just say hi and let them know your not afraid of them. Homeless people tend to be harmless. All the ones I've encountered are. They are usually just crazy. Sometimes they are normal, but mostly they are missing a few screws. I can't guarantee you nothing bad will happen, but I will say this... I've been going into abandoned buildings for about 2 years now in some of the crappiest decaying bombed out neighborhoods in Detroit and nothing bad has happened to me yet... I know people who have been doing it for longer than me and they are all ok also... So, find out, trust your instincts, be smart about it, but above all don't be afraid.

Very graphical, and really does show a true vanishing point (in terms of perspective) the lighting is perfect.

What it reminds me of is catacombs, or cloysters in a cathedral - the light, the unending feeling etc.

Excellent shot!

Thank you. I'm a bit confused with how to process the light in some of these shots. I'm always tempted to tone down the highlights and darken up the room. In this one here the pipes and surrounding areas are dark while all around the window the light is more even. I really liked the idea of all the darkness kind of surrounding the outer part of this so I left it that way. I shot this with raw tho which gives me the freedom to change how I process that. If I wanted I could bring up the shadows more by giving an adjustment to the exposure. I suppose the shot I took of the main lobby is better example of where I don't know how to process. I brought the highlights way down because of all the reflections in that shot but that leaves everything else rather dark. I'm not a fan of HDR photography perse so I'm left scratching my head all the time wondering how to get around the limited dynamic range of a camera... Anyhow, I just wrote a whole lot about this and I've elaborated way more than was called for. I don't know why but I've been in a really writey mode lately..

no worries

Hmmmm, you could fiddle with the light levels till the cows come home. Personally I like the way this shot has come out. It's quite delicate in it's own little way. Delicate and highly detailed which is a nice touch to architectural pieces.
